    Hi guys,

Don't know much about ROMS, kernels, etc but I managed to root my Droid last week thanks to theoverclockr instructions. I took it from stock 2.1 back to 2.0.1 via RSDlite, to 2.1 rooted, loaded the Android 2.2 and the 1.2 ghz kernal. Works great.

    Here's where my questions start:

Everyone talks about Bugless Beast like its the best thing ever so I want to try it. I assume I can install that at my current state and not lose everything plus still be running 2.2 froyo?

I am guessing this is how I do it, please tell me if I am correct or not -
    1. Turn my phone on in recovery, select nandroid, then backup.
    2. Download Clockwork Mod
    3. Chose Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
    4. Download BB4 and save it to the root of my SD card
    5. Restart phone in recovert, select Wipe data/factory reset
    6. Select Wipe cache partition
    7. Install zip BB from sd card
    8. Reboot

Now, IF that goes right, I am assuming I will still have everything, apps, etc from before just a different Rom? Whats the exact difference anyway between stock 2.2 Froyo and BB4?

If that goes wrong, I assume I restore my backup? I'm guessing you do that through recovery too?

Question #2 - What is the battery widget/app that everyone has on here that still displays your battery in the status bar but has a number % of charge in the battery?

Question #3 - Can anyone give me a simple guide on how to remove Facebook, Twitter and Visual Voice Mail. I see everyone talking about tying in commands, removing this and that but I have no idea what program to use to do this, where to do it, etc.

Question #4 - With SetCPU, it looks like with my 1.2 ghz kernel, I can underclock it back to 600 or whatever I want? I am also assuming that I can have the min and max at 1200000 and have it super fast but a battery hog?

Question #5 - Where do I get this benchmark/quadrant score everyone talks about to see how my phone stacks up to everyone elses?

    Thanks guys

it sounds like your running simply stunning? 4.3 or 4.4? if you want to go to BB then you will probably have to wipe data and cache - I have the % but it was in the blue theme with Chevy's I didn't install a separate app or widget for it. I think battery monitor will do that for you though.

The min and max is for auto scaling - if you want 1.2 ghz all the time I think you just set the slider and run performance mode.

I use Titanium Backup (Paid) to batch restore my apps after a wipe. Does a bang-up job. The battery percentage thing comes with Bugless Beast. Very handy, but it only shows in 20% increments.

Make sure you can get INTO ClockworkMod Recovery BEFORE you start wiping and flashing. It is very finicky. I would not backup my ROM in ROM Manager, but in Recovery itself to make sure it works.

Quadrant is an app available in the Market.

    Here is the process:

    1. Turn my phone on in recovery, select nandroid, then backup.
    2. Download BB4 and save as "update.zip" to the root of my SD card
    3. Restart phone in recovery, select Wipe data/factory reset
    4. Select Wipe cache partition
    5. Install update.zip from sd card
    6. Reboot

hmm maybe p3? not sure - if it was simply stunning it would say it all over the screen lol..

I use rom manager (paid) to get my updates and do a full backup before I do any sort of flash (via rom manager or titanium or even nandroid as suggested).

Yep I think it must have been P3. I remember seeing that on the screen somewhere - Like I said, I don't know much about this. I was just lucky enough to find a site with step by step instructions. Is there a big advantage to switching to BB4?

First things first, visually you aren't going to notice many changes between stock and bugless beast. The difference is mainly in performance optimizations. Things like having more memory at boot for example. The battery percent in the notification bar is also a feature of bugless beast. BB is also deodexed which allows you to modify the phones framework (i.e. themes).

In terms of how to flash bugless beast I would recommended using ROM MANAGER. It is available in the market in both free and paid versions. The difference being that the paid version has a wider variety of themes, ROMs, and kernals to choose from. Bugless beast however is available in the free version.

Once you download rom manager it will prompt you to flash clockwork recovery. When this is completed you will select reboot into recovery from the rom manager menu and make a full backup of your current set up there. Then reboot your phone.

Download bb0.4 from rom manager. Once completed a box will pop up asking of you want to backup your current rom and wipe data and cache. This is where you have a decision to make. If the rom you are currently using is a frf84b base (check this by going to settings-about phone and scrolling to the bottom) you should be able to flash without wiping with no problems but there are no guarantees so its always safer to wipe. The downside to wiping is you will lose all of your apps and data (can easily be restored with titanium backup).

Now back up your setup again as you will want a working backup for when you inevitably end up in a boot loop from trying to flash a ridiculous ultra low voltage uber clocked kernal...

You will however lose your current kernal so you will have to redownload and reflash that if you so choose. Now would be a great time to try a few different kernals in varying clock speeds and voltages as well. I recommend Chevy's or p3s kernals. I haven't heard much about a bekit kernal for froyo yet, last I heard he was waiting for the official release before releasing a froyo kernal of his own. Always make sure you have a working backup as I said before as some droids don't like certain kernals or voltages.

As for benchmarks, you can test short and long bench right within setcpu. Also download both linpack and quadrant from the market. Linpack with give you a mflops rating and quadrant tests 2d and 3d rendering.

    Hope this helps.

No prob. I may have only a few posts but I've had my Droid since launch day and have been rooted since the original root exploit was found in 2.0.1 had have been reading these forums since before the Droid was released. Hang around here long enough and you'll soon become an expert (or a weirdo amongst your friends...haha). There is a lot to learn but you pick it up quick.

    Happy flashing.

P.s. after you get bb set up you may want to try out cyanogenmod 6.0. Its only a release candidate at this point but has been super stable for me so far. Cm is a whole 'nother can o'worms...

I believe the themes are limited right now for ss 4.4 and other frf91 roms. Someone just updated one of the threads with a black theme in addition to the blue energy theme. I'm actually looking for that thread now BC I can't stand the blue. Just do a search. Sorry I can't link it ATM.

Here's the link over to DF to check out FRF91 themes. Haven't flashed yet BC my husband and I are road tripping right now and like many of you guys out there...I get harrassed about spending so much QT with my Droid.... he digs it, though and fully supports it, so I can't complain ;-)
