Can anyone post a pic and paint a little dot on the phone (dont have mine yet, cant wait!) where the magnet is supposed to go for the phone to enter dock mode? I'm going to work up a dock, but I'd like to know where the magnet needs to go first. Thanks!

On the back right around the speaker where the battery door edge is.

You're going to need to play with it anyway, as if you orient the magnet wrong the phone will enter the car dock mode instead of the multimedia mode.

Good call with this post: I am considering buying 1 of those Arkon mounts and for a car/bike solution and it would be sweet to be able to do the car dock thing.

If anyone does feel like taking the time to help us out and show us the exact spot, it definitely will be helpful. We'll obviously still have to play around with in, but the spot is relatively exact, so it would be nice to see exactly where it is. Thanks.

The spot isn't really all that exact. The magnet will activate it in the general vicinity. Like I said, it's right next to the speaker on the battery door edge.

You also must use a rod shaped magnet. A flat bar or ribbon type magnet will not work.

Good to know... you sound like you have some experience with this: any pointers on where to find an appropriate magnet for the job?

Long time lurker, first time poster. I recently got the Droid x for work and wanted a car mount. I got a cheap suction cup/vent mount from Fry's electronics for $15. I then got some fridge magnets (clips) from the dollar store. Hollowed out a spot in the foam backing of the mount and placed the magnet. It now goes right into dock mode as soon as it is in the mount. I also realized if I reversed the magnet it switched to the desk dock mode. Same magnet position different polarity

Thanks for the positive words Kwest. If anyone wants I could put a couple of pictures together of my setup. The area of the phone that sets off the dock is pretty easy to find. Like it was said earlier, a small round magnet from the back of a kitchen magnet should do the job

I took some quick pictures. Hope the upload works. I attached to my fake wood tv cabinet in my office. You can see the magnet is not completely flush as it was pretty thick to begin with. Once I get a case for the phone I won't be worried about it rubbing.

I'm hoping to figure a way to thread the power cable permanently into the stabilizing arms in the future

What do you mean by rod shaped exactly? (Awesome) poster above has a magnet that looks pretty flat.

    Thanks :)
