Yup, completely agree. There are some third party apps you can get that do mail, but you'll end up with the gmail app, samsung app and another mail app running. It's flipping frustrating the gmail app can't be removed (or the Samsung one for that matter).

I've got an exchange account in the mail app, which might not help things... saying that, I've not set that account up on the replacement phone i recieved, so i'm just using the google app atm.
