I am trying to set up my droid to check my AKO email and I keep getting an error, Cannot safely connect to server (Not trusted server certificate)

Anyone know how to get it to work with AKO?

I got it to work. Had to be set SSL to accept all certs.

if you want the best experiences with the Droid and AKO email you should sign up for the Beta AKO email. they will move your email over to the new 2010 Exchange AKo sever and they you can do exchange sync or imap. i use exchange sync and love it.

    www.beta.army.mil to sign up!

I thought the use of email aggregators was expressly forbidden by policy? About 2 years ago I recieved a email stating that they had done a security scan and my account was accessing the server via a unathorized device, in my case a Blackberry.

They still scan every so often so just be careful.

Blackberry's aggregate with BIS and that is why you can't use it for AKO access. you can pull AKO into a dedicated email application wiht pop3 or Imap if it's a local client, ie..apple mail, outlook or the mail app on the droid, palm pre, iphone or windows mobile device.

Army regulations (AR 25-2 para 4-5a8) prohibit auto forwarding of official mail to non-official accounts and from providing your AKO credentials to unauthorized individuals. We can no longer post instructions for configuring your Blackberry to retrieve your Beta mail through the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS), which is considered a mail aggregator system and a security risk.

the current Beta Mail for AKO adds Exchange support and they migrate over you AKO account to the new Exchange 2010 severs and gives you "push" style sync access.

I'm using Beta Mail, and it rocks, but here are the AKO instructions. For AKO you have to use IMAP; with Beta, you use Exchange ActiveSync.

AKO - Email - Configure Outlook IMAP

I used the settings that BH put on (see below). Initially it worked and it will come up, but now I have problems with forceclosing. It forcecloses mail everytime I open it. Any suggestions?

I'd first recommend you switch to the K9 mail client. Works great on AKO for me.

    cheers,

What are the benefits of using the AKO beta as opposed to regular AKO? downsides?

    I did mine as a pop3 account.
    Settings as follows:
    Incoming settings -
    username: first.last (no @..)
    password: self explanatory
POP3 server: pop.us.army.mil (you have to change it to this....the default is us.army.mil without the POP)
    Port: 995
security: SSL (all certs) (this changes the port to 995 for you)
    Delete email (when I delete)

    for outgoing settings -
smtp server: smtp.us.army.mil (again, the default is us.army.mil without the SMTP, so you'll have to add this)
    Port: 465
Security type: SSL (all certs - again this changes the port to 465 for you )

    require sign-in: checked
Hope this helps...let me know if you need any more help.

I live in the New York area...from day one of having Motorola Droid, the phone could not connect to AKO (settings confirmed); communication error. Strangely, when I was down in South Carolina recently, AKO miraculously worked (flawlessly). Returned through Chicago, and AKO no longer works.

Verizon what gives? Come clean. Marginal 3G coverage in these metro areas?....are we being misled?

I have done the science experiment...AKO works, settings are correct; Do we all have to move to South Carolina?
