Google mails works reliably, my other accounts don't. The mail on this Android and my former iPhone are my only complaints. Blackberry's mail is reliable and consistent.

    1. To guarantee that I send mail I must turn off the phone and turn it back on. If I don't my corporate mail will eventually go (yes I have checked me settings for each account = 5 minutes).

    2. To receive mail mail with confidence, I also must turn off the phone and turn it back on. For example. I just checked my Hotmail account in Outlook 9 new emails. Droid, 0. Turn off and off. Now Droid has 9 new emails.

    3. This morning it seems my Corporate mails seems to receive mail properly (Novell based). The usual problem is that I can't trust Droid to send my mail in this account. It doesn't go reliably.

    4. When I had my Corporate Exchange account it was ok, again. I often had mail in my Outlook and not on the Droid.

Any idea when Android will update these mail services? I love my Android, I really do but, If Blackberry comes up with a Droid/iPhone Killer... and Android doesn't fix their mail applications, without a doubt I'll have to bail. Mail is critical for me.

Why not use some 3rd party applications for email? There are quite a few of them.

This is not BlackBerry where you can only use what is built-in, you can install whatever app yo uwant, this is a Smartphone.

I haven't thought about that as an option. Do you have any recommendations?

I do not use it myself, but people generally recommend K9 Mail.

    Popeye,

I use the stock mail app and it worked fine for months and then started doing exactly what you described.

I went into the acounts and checked settings - and then told it to verify the settings and it's been fine for the past 2 weeks. You may want to try this before installing another app.

Although I must admit - email on the Droid is one of it's weakest points.

I took the suggestion about using K9... seems to work great well, I can't connect to my Novell-based corporate account. I had difficulty last time to. I'll mess with that later.

My primary difficulty is, I cannot remove the Hotmail accounts I created before in the default mail application. I click remove , then wait, wait, wait, force. accounts will not seem to delete.

    Ideas? Suggestions?

So I'm going through this removal of Hotmail accounts, clicking Wait, clicking wait, clicking Force Close. Nothing is happening.

I decided to try something, I shut down my wireless router. Go to the first Hotmail account, click remove. Bam! Gone. I click the second Hotmail account, remove, Bam. Gone!

So the delay in receiving mail... maybe it was my wireless router all along? I have in the last 60 days, shifted from an office environment to working out of the home. Hmmm

Downloaded K9 Mail... installed the two Hotmail accounts. I like it, very much.

So, the moral of the story. If the application won't load, unload, edit properly... switch to 3G. Just in case it's your router.

I just wanted to post where I stand in my email sorrow. So far a happy ending!

I have my Gmail working as before.

I have my Corporate Novell-based email using the default Mail application, seems to be working well now that my two Hotmail accounts were removed.

My two Hotmail accounts are using K9 mail, thank you Szadzik.

Everything is working really very well. I am much happier.

    Thank you everyone!

    Lou
