I have File Manager installed on my Droid. I'm not rooted, phone is running 2.2.

When I looked at information for MY PHONE, it says that my applications have used 185M of 261 M or 70%. (Not sure 70% of what.. but it seems like a lot since I don't have a lot on my phone) Clicking 'Applications', it shows all my currently downloaded programs. But it has FOUR instances of MAPS, each one is 4829KB. The information shows each is 4.5.0 and is dated 2010-09-11. So all four appear to be identical files. When I tried to delete ONE of them, it says uninstalling this program will still allow the factory version of MAPS to run, but that I will be uninstalling the update. I canceled, but am confused.

My question.. why do I have four instances of the same file? Can I delete all four and then just do a manual update to MAPS? Can I delete three of them and the fourth update will still be running? Just curious if any one else has four such files on their Droid.

    Thanks for your help.

theres no harm in deleting maps since its available in the market to download, so id say just delete and reinstall. I've never seen this issue myself

Quick update.. I went ahead and deleted MAPS update. All four files were removed from the list under applications in File Manager. I went into the Market and manually downloaded the update again. Checked File Manager and there are the same four files listed again. In this case, ignorance would have been bliss. Back where I started.. but still wondering why  there are four files - same size - same date.

    Thanks gallandorf for your help.

Not sure but did you free up 4MB or 16MB when you deleted them?

I'm afraid I'm not very good with the exchange rate between KB and MB. But when I deleted the MAPS update, the value went from 70% to 69%. I forgot to look at the exact numbers. But it's an M, not a MB in that field so not sure what it means.

I made my son put File Manager on his phone yesterday. He has the same four files. <SHRUG> I guess that's the way it's supposed to be. His phone says application 'usage' is 80% - again not sure what the 80% represents. Is it memory or is there very little room to add much more to the phone? I see people listing program after program on their phones. I hardly have anything on it so how can it be full? Again.. maybe the 80% is something other than capacity.

The SD card, on the other hand, appears to have room. If it is capacity, how does one go about moving applications there? Again.. not rooted, nor do I want to be.
