I think we all know how crazy and busy and hectic this season can be, and it's so easy to get irked or even angry when thinks don't go our way: late to work or school, lock oneself out, caught in traffic, store is out of what you wanted, something breaks in your home or car, crowds everywhere, kids acting up, rude people, the list just seems to go on and on, doesn't it?
But I'm thinking tonight of those who will be missing someone this Christmas; whether the result of military service, accident, illness, an unimaginable horror like the fire in Oakland, senseless violence or just old age. Whatever the reason, their friend or loved one is forever gone; never again can they hug them, or hold them, or laugh or cry with them...that hole is huge, and it's raw and it's very real.
So maybe consider thinking of those you love and can come home to, and hug and hold and love. Think about them while you're stuck in traffic or afflicted by any other bothersome thing, and be thankful they are still around.
And if you're reading this, I'm thankful YOU are still around, too.
All the best, not just at the holiday season, but always.
