Seems about as useful as any other generalization. Guess I better tell my wife that she's wrong about preferring her Droid...

Generally speaking I dislike generalizations. ;) Why don't they ever poll me?

It would be quite the marketing foible to attempt to draw either gender to one or the other device family, I'm thinking.

Although we do see ads aimed at this or that age demographic now and then for a specific phone.

Making generalities about device needs based on women or men or race, whatever, can only force you into a self-imposed narrow view of the overall market out there.

While I won't really give their findings much credit I will say that the iPhone does offer more in the way of accessories and we do love our accessories. ;)

Oddly enough and despite the gender ratio on this forum, I personally know more women with Android phones than I do men. Then again, that may just be due to the people I hang out with and my influence on them. :D

This is true, but the sad fact is that nearly EVERY company does generalize and make ads targeted towards different races and gender. If you have seen some of the recent car commercials, Windows 7 commercials, and so on, you maybe realize what I mean. Do I think doing that is right? Nope. But it's not going to stop companies from doing this, because it makes them more money.

edit. Little off topic, but one of the most f****d up commercials I saw was actually yesterday. It was about getting tested for AIDS. And it showed a black guy hanging out with a bunch of his friends (also all were black) at a club. Yes, the commercial was telling people to do something good, but the way they went about doing it, I thought it was just horrible. To make generalization like that is just screwed up. Sorry for being off topic, that commercial really pissed me off.

I have no doubt about that. ;)

Actually, it was a woman who brought me to the Wonderful World of Android. A flirty gal at Radio Shack here in town got fired and took a job at Verizon. Heck of a story. :D

Not all marketing is done in that vain though. I happen to actually be in marketing (internet mostly) and we do this all the time. We target genders, age groups, regions, political views, religion, etc. (never done anything by race though). We will run one ad in Texas and a completely different ad in New York. An ad targeted for a specific age group will be run at one time of the day while an ad for a different group is run at another time or even a different region. While the campaign or individual ad is targeted at a specific demographic it isn't all nefarious or anything. I remember doing an email campaign for a company that dealt with beer and wine (home brewery type stuff) and we specifically avoided certain age groups because they can't drink and certain businesses, like Churches, as not to offend anyone.

    LMAO!

Why would you get banned? That is hilarious. Plus it just goes back to the view that Apple = Evil and Steve Jobs is the Devil.

I guess it does depend on how you approach to doing this type of marketing. But I think I've just seen to many commercials doing it the bad way.

I thought some of the opposite gender might find it offensive.

Things kinds of thing have no merit, it's based on who is doing the writing and their preferences.

There is also a "study" that says iPhone users have more sex than Android or Blackberry users.

That would depend on who you ask.
I know 6 men with iPhones and only 1 woman.

Also, that study broke down the number of men and women with iPhones and each group according to them were having more sex.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-20013286-10391704.html

(CBS) Want lovers to answers your call? Trade in that Blackberry for an iPhone.
At least that's the 411 from the online dating and social networking service OKCupid. Its fun but decidedly unscientific poll of 9,785 smartphone users found that iPhone owners have a lot more sex partners than owners of any other smartphone, CNET reports.
Blackberry users are in second place in the sex race and Android users are lagging in third, according to the poll of 30-year-old smartphone owners.
Who had the most sexual partners?
Females iPhone users; they had an average of 12.3 sex partners. Female Android owers had only 6.1 sex partners on average, and female Blackberry owners 8.8 sex partners.
Among men, iPhone users reported having 10 sex partners, compared to 8.1 sex partners for Blackberry owners.
And how many sex partners did male Android owners have? Just six.
    Talk about wrong number.

Well, my sign is Aries the Ram, and my ruling planet is Mars, so that explains it - that's why I've got an Android phone :)
