Hi, I'm on my second Desire in 3 weeks!

The first started turning itself off and could only be restarted by removing & reinserting the battery. The second started doing the same!!

After a bit of research I've determined that the problem is in fact the 16GB micro SD card I have inserted, which I am told by Orange the Desire cannot handle & is a known fault, even though the spec says it'll cope with 32GB, the actual limit is 8GB. Is this true?

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Putting the original 4GB card back in solves the problem.

Where did you get the SD card from?

Are you sure it isn't a fake?

Have you tried formatting the 16 gb card in your pc? I had the same trouble with a 16 gb card and after a format in my card reader it has been fine.

zero problems with a 16gb card here, and people have reported success running 32gb cards too
as above, i'd try reformatting it, but in the phone

if you feel your card may be fake, you can always try h2testw to check it
Download H2testw - Test hacked flash memory - MyMPx

I've been using a 16GB micro sd without any issues (apart from being able to save apps onto it!)

Same here. I did the format in phone and have had no problems, shows up as about 15.5gb of actual storage.

I've been running a 16gb with no problems, but yesterday, after changing the battery, it reported that my card was corrupted, and needed formatting. I tested it in my PC, ran Scandisk, which couldn't repair it, and formatted it. Since then (only 12 hours!) it's been OK.

    So...not 100% successful.

    Thanks for your replies guys.

I'm even more perplexed now than before. So the guy at Orange is talking rubbish!

The 16GB card is a Sandisk card and works fine on the p.c. It's been formatted on my Desire and my Desire can read it ok (when it works).
I will run h2testw on it shortly.

Would the fact that it's an SDHC card make any difference?

HC stands for high capacity, from above 2GB to 32GB, so you won't find a 16GB SD. (Though I have seen listings for, say, 8GB and 16GB SD cards, but if you look further they're actually SDHC.) Are you sure it's a SD card?

    It's a Sandisk micro SDHC 16GB card.

I'm currently re-formatting it on my laptop.
Once that's done, I'll check it with h2testw.

If that's ok, i'll format in my Desire and see what happens.

I certainly wouldn't rely on what anyone in an Orange shop told me. They sometimes talk a load of old rubbish, in my experience.

If you bought it from eBay/Amazon return it asap and please name and shame. Also worth reporting their listings.

If you're buying another card then the Transcend 16gb card is a good one. Got mine from Amazon. They're a bit pricey (

In my country's defence, not everything from Hong Kong on eBay is crap, just the few odd sellers trying to cheat us honest folks their money

I have encountered problems with SD cards being properly recognized when they being moved around a lot and inserted in card readers, different PCs (especially between XP and Win7) and mobile devices. Now, when I buy a SD card for one device I leave it inserted all the time and prefer connecting the device itself to the PC to access it. If I decide to use it in a different device (e.g. from phone to digicam) I insert it in the new device and format it there.

I have a 16GB SDHC Sandisk in my Desire and have never taken it out. Works like a charm.

I also just put a 16GB MicroSDHC card in my Desire, also from Hong Kong.

    Foolish.

Whenever I connect to my PC (via phone) and try to write more than a few MB's of data to the card it corrupts, and requires formatting. Been trying to get my 3GB of data on there for 48 hours now, about to give up and put my old 4GB card back in.

    *sadface*

Protip - Don't buy cheap memory on ebay.
