    I had the same problem.
It is caused because your email server at work requires a security certificate and possibly requires you to enter a 4 digit pin.
The Exchange program on the phone does not know how to handle the security and acts stupid.
I could not figure out why everything worked but "Respond" and "Compose".
Even my calendar and reminder alerts worked.
The only way I could get it to work was to come on here and bitch about it and finally dish out the $19 for TOUCHDOWN.
I will say TOUCHDOWN works awesome and is easy to use.
I'm just still pissed I have to buy and app to get my phone to do what it was designed to do.
    And pay for it.
HTC and Google owe me $19.
