I was looking through the original droid forum and i saw this rom call MIUI by a Japanese company or something that wwas originally made for nexus1 and has been ported to the droid. What do you guys think of this? Would you use it? Any chance it could be ported to the X?

Here is the original youtube video of it

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or-9T44Bt7M&feature=related

And here it is running on the droid 1

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6yY53Kcc0w&feature=player_embedded#!

i cant decide if i like it or not kind of iPhone like but it still has all the android features.

If it was available it would be fun to try out. That being said I dont think its coming to the DX anytime soon. We have yet to see any rom for the DX that is not at some level based on Motorola's motoblur build for the DX.

Hopefully CVPCS can bring us Obsidian before too long but who knows if his efforts will be something that can be transferable to other source built roms for the DX.

I ran this on my Incredible for a couple of weeks and it was easily my favorite ROM hands down. There is nothing else available that compares. Its a sweeeeet UI.

yeah miui is made by a bunch of chinese android hackers, its blazingly fast and different, but when i run it on my inc i usually end up using launcherpro with it because the lack of an app drawer irks me.

i believe the developers actually helped cyanogen bring fm radio to cm6 or at least got him started it on it anyway.

but to bring it to the x, it most likely would have to be the same way that cvcps is trying to bring the gem series to the dx, and once thats perfected someone would have to put the time into make it happen.

cvcps apparently has everything working except the cam on the DX so as soon as it comes out i think you may see a wealth of roms coming to the DX

are you basing this off of birdmans tweet? Cause I have yet to see CVPCS actually say this or even see birdman confirm that it was CVPCS that he was talking about.

What exactly is cvps doing with obsidian? I thought he was just putting out another blurless Rom that'll look like vanilla android. But I admittedly have no idea.

So what does obsidian mean for Rom development for the dx? What is the difference in a source built Rom and needing to unlock the bootloader for a rom?

I second this question. What is so different or advantageous about a ROM that is built "from source", as opposed to a current Blurless ROM like rubiX focused?

Also, I noticed in one of the Obsidian demo videos that there was on options menu for Over and Under clocking. I thought that these weren't possible without cracking the bootloader?

if its not CVPCS then none the less if it is a true AOSP ROM then i assume that it will use the Moto kernel to boot another kernel that somebody finally got to talk to the raido. and once that happens doors are open for many other true AOSP ROMS.....of course i could be wrong but full from what i have been readinf that seems to be the case and i dont know of any other full AOSP ROM for DX/D2

So it tries to boot a second kernel over the original? And it provides more customization obviously?

So then that means that Obsidian is a ROM that causes the Moto kernel to boot a secondary kernel? I was under the impression the the aforementioned ability to have such a secondary kernel work with the radio was not currently possible.

    Has this changed?

my understanding of the process is that the stock moto kernel is used as they can't replace it with a new one. The overclock/underclock in settings will just let you do what you can do with setcpu on the x (which is just underclock) but with it done through settings instead of setcpu it ll boot at that speed you set, where setcpu doesnt take over until the phone is booted.

I Believe (could be wrong) that the obsidian rom hijacks the boot in a manner not unlike koush's bootstrap to enable the rom to boot and is a different recovery. this is not the kevec hack from the milestone as the radio should work. from cvcps tweets it seems like its still a work in progress but hopefully for everyone they get it done soon. If this works then theoretically other custom roms could be booted the same way but the boot process would have to be built into the rom from the start, not using bootstrap/clockwork recovery.

and the difference between a true aosp rom and a modified blur rom would come down to speed/performance in many aspects. ruby on the dinc is really, really fast even with the stock kernel. in my experience even a tick faster than cm6 (but cm6 has a lot more features).

Source roms allow for true vanilla android as well as the ability to add in custom tweaks, scripts, apps, settings and functions within every level of the rom. Also developers like cyanogen, Pete, and others have proven that they can write more stable fast running roms from source for other devices like the nexus1 and D1.

you can underclock your device now with setcpu. but in order to overclock you need a kernel that allows for it.

So in theory you can hijak the boot and then boot the custom rom after the efuse checks the kernel? Just trying to understand this. If so it really would open the door to seriously custom roms. Don't want to get my hopes up if that is wrong. I'm still gonna keep my dx. It smokes other phones w/o the bootloader cracked and stock. ApeX ftw btw.

Do you got your Fascinate yet, if so how do you like it? Also I wonder if this will ever go to the Fascinate?

This would be awesome on the Droid X, but I doubt we ever get it unless something changes.
