mms crashing - not recieving mms at all

I have a captivate updated to 2.2 and just recently I have been getting the force close MMS problems. I have been using handcent since I got the phone. I tried uninstalling handcent - but then the factory messaging application wont work at all without the force close MMS error. I cleared messaging data - still no good. I had been getting errors here and there before - but MMS would still arrive. However, now I dont even get mms messages at all.. text works - no mms.

Any clues?

I also tried to delete the mmssms.db file - but it does not exist in the directory I expected it..
