motorola droid with 2.1.1 wont autofocus

My droid has 2.1 update 1, and from everything I've read it should have fixed the firmware problem with the autpfocus, but my camera didn't stop focusing until after the update. I've cleaned the lens a million times and still nothing. Is it a hardware issue that I need to get a new phone ti resolve or is it a technical issue? This gets exceedingly more aggrivating everyday.

Carrier is verizon, firmware is 2.1 upd 1 baseband is c_01.3e.03p kerning is 2.6.29-omap1-g7fa8788 and the build is ese81

I've seen a post claiming that disabling geotagging helped. Haven't tried it but I haven't had focus issues (and geotagging is on).
