This application is a must have for someone like me. If it is Friday night, you're hard pressed not to see me at the theater. So Movies gives me all the information I need about any movies that are out currently or are coming to theaters soon. I will be basing my review on three categories: design, functionality, and updates. Design - 5/5 Movies has a streamlined design. You will find tabs showing you what is in the box office, theaters around you, upcoming, DVD releases, and a personalized list of movies that you enjoy (including handy Facebook integration). Clicking on a tab, such as Box Office (where you will be spending most of your time), will give you the basic information about movies (such as movie rating, Rotten Tomatoes rating, cast, and movie length) opening this week and the top box office movies along with the movie poster and ability to see the trailer. Clicking on individual movies will give you a plethora of information including showtimes, more trailers, reviews, full cast, pictures, and sometimes the ability to buy tickets. The design is excellent, and I find no flaws with it. Functionality - 4/5 Movies can take a bit to load up. Usually taking about 10 seconds to fully load on my Motorola Droid, and normally was using about 14MBs of RAM in the background. The application is still very solid. There is no denying this. Flixster is also behind it, so it does have "corporate backing." This is my term to mean that the application will probably be supported for a long time. Another small function that I did notice was that if you are loading a tab that you accidentally pressed, it will cancel out if you select another tab--a feature not many applications will support. That is a plus in my book. Overall, the functionality could use some tweaking, but is perfect for the everyday user (or someone with a Task Killer!) Updating - 4/5 It seems that Movies updates about once every two weeks. I am not a fan of updating. So some may see this two week interval as a blessing or as a curse. Take it how you will. Currently, I am running 2.1, and so I have no automatic updating. So I feel that I should dedicate a section to this. I did feel that most updates did include useful functions and not only bug fixes that you find in most applications. For example, the latest update (as of 6/9/2010) includes the ability to manage your Netflix queue. Whereas, when Advanced Task Killer updates, I honestly can't find a difference in the program. Overall - 4.5/5 Movies is a really solid application. It has a top-notch design. It works great (with the exception of the memory problem). And it has functional updating. There is honestly no reason to not download this application. I use it every time my friends and I decide to see a movie.
