I am about to get myself the hero, and I know there's Exchange support but I still want to make sure some point:

    1. Can I see appointments from my Google calendar alongside with my exchange calendar in a single view?

    2. can I sync contacts from Exchange over the air? I mean that new contacts will be pushed into my phone, without manual or timed syncing.

    3. I see there are some issues with SSL or password policy when connecting to exchange. Are those still valid?

    4. Can I log into a Google Apps account, instead of a regular Google account?

Yes, and the entries are color coded to make it easy to tell them apart

Yes. Plenty of options too like every 5, 10, 15 minutes etc. Plus a "push" setting called As items arrive

Unfortunately.... yes. I'm struggling with this right now. There are alternative apps that are suppose to fix this. A popular one is called Touchdown ad it's in the Android Market.

Should be ok. I don't use Google Apps but my friend has it on his Hero as the main Google account.

    Thank you very much!

My main concern is that SSL\Password policy issues.
Are those apps that you have mentioned free?
Also, do I have any way to know if this connection will work before I but the phone?

I contact HTC about the SSL issue yesterday. Below is their reply. Interestingly enough, I just started getting the SSL problem, it had been working fine for about 3 weeks since I got the Hero. Today it's somehow corrected itself and is working again! I did nothing to fix it so I can't explain it. But it definitely appears to be a real problem for many people.

I can't think of anyway to test this prior to buying the phone.

The Touchdown app for Exchange is 5 day free trial, then it's $20 to buy. It's VERY highly rated in the Android Market. I'm holding off until the SSL thing becomes a "consistent" problem for me.

Thank you for contacting HTC™ Technical Support Center.
My name is Felicia, and I will be happy to assist you today

There are Third Part applications you can download from the Android Marktet that will assist you with accessing sites and downloading certificates....

    It is called Nitroid's "Touchdown"

NitroDesk, a company that specializes in web-services, has just released TouchDown – the first Microsoft Exchange client for the Android OS. TouchDown, unlike other released exchange services for Android, will allow users to access their email, contacts, and calendar information on their Exchange servers. NitroDesk assures users that TouchDown is secure, and that the TouchDown will be the only application necessary to ensure the process on both the mobile and server-side.

It's very disappointing to hear that HTC themselves reccommend not using their software, but other apps.

Anyway, Thank you very much for the update. I think I will stick with my iPhone for now..
