Hi all, im loading up my Desire with music files but seem to be getting a lot of files placed in the Unknown Artsists folder, take for example copied over 20 tunes from Alice in Chains into Music/Alice in Chains folder but half of them went in Unknown Artists folder. Is it doing this because of different file format or is the Desire just reading the files wrongly and not putting them in the correct folder when i use the music player ?

Firstly the desire doesn't like WMA and always shows these are "Unknown Artist", MP3's are best. Before you transfer music over to your desire you need to check that they are "tagged" correctly, this is easy to do. Find the file on your computer you want to put on your desire, right click on the MP3 and go to Probities. Click on summary, then click advanced which will show all the tags. here you can enter artist name, album name etc. Now transfer over to your desire. Good done.

ALso you can download an app from the Market called AUDIO TAGGER FREE,

this will let you edit all the tags and works well but again doesnt work for WMA.

    I think you mean "properties".

If you need a program for audio conversion, I can recommend Freecorder 4 - it's an IE extension, but converts almost anything to anything, records audio & video, really useful.

I've just gone through the process of converting 500+ WMA's to MP3, and fixed the tags on over 700 tracks. I used "Free WMA Converter" on my laptop to convert them and "MP3Tag" to update the ID

Sounds like fun. Luckily I notice sms's didn't work after ripping only 3 albums.
