    Just wondering ....

I have an app that tracks the battery ... GSam Battery Monitor...

... It says my average battery life is 16h 32m ... is this normal?

The battery on this beast is HUUUUGEE so im a little bemused why the drain is so big ....

... I do use go launcher, with 9 screens and most of them do have widgets and custom icons and im using 3dui and live wallpaper ....

... but under battery monitoring only seems google services takes so much of the juice .... under settings I only have google mail and contacts as syncs ... it takes 40% + battery .....

Anyone experiencing a simlar thing? Any tips? I dont want to take off the launcher, widgets, live wallpapers .... anything else I can do?

I already have screen timeout at 30 seconds.

    FIXED!!

Ok so i fully charged the phone at 11pm last night. Played some games, fpse emulator, a snooker game, watched loads of youtube videos and did a bit of browsing. By about 4.30am i had 50% battery still left. I left it running. The apps were still running in the background (youtube, a few games, email etc)

by 12 noon next day i was at 30% ... used the phone to check emails a couple of times.

by 3 im at 22% So seemed to have worked

By doing this I seem to have gotten an extra couple of hours of battery! Currently at 81% battery used (16 hours and 15 minutes usage) when my average usage was 16h 32m and all my battery was gone! and in gsam battery monitor google services no longer appears. kernel android os is the higest at 17.5% usage. Google used to take 40%. It also says i have 4 hours and 32 minutes of battery life left! So i should be able to get about 20 hours worth of battery.

    Here is what i did.

    - First thing to do is check what you have syncing to google? Do you really need them all?
To do this go to settings>accounts and click google. Now you should see your email address(es).
    - Click on the email
Untick any that you don't need. I had gmail and contacts sycned on mine. I unticked sync contacts (you can always tick it again if you want)
    - Now under settings > accounts > google
Click on the privacy options one by one (Maps& Latitude, Search, Location, google. & Ads) & untick them (you can always tick them again when required - the phone prompts you)

Now also I use the gmail app to get my email

So in gmail app go to settings ... you shuold see general settings and then your email account(s)
    - click on your email accounts and under Data Usage there is an option called 'Days of mail to sync'. I believe the default is 30 days. I put mine down to 14 days.

Anyway, this worked for me. It may also work for you .... Probaly a good idea to take screenshots before you untick anything. that way you can always go back to your original settings.

Depends on what you are doing with it.

example: you do nothing and the phone dies after 16 hours. then that is bad.

if you use it heavily then that is normal.

I'd say for having 9 screens with widgets/Live wallpaper that sounds pretty good to me.

That's about my average. I'll get around 12 hours at 35% by the time I throw it in the charger.

Sounds about right to me. I use mine moderately throughout the day and I get about that same amount of battery life though usually I can get a little more hours on mine. It's acceptable for me so no complaints.

Sounds about right with what you have operating but dump that GO Launcher and battery life will likely improve. I tried GO on my Droid X and it killed my battery life by at least 25%.

Just read that it's a myth that live wallpapers eat a lot of juice... Apparently only about 3% of a charged battery

I just got the note II. I am doing this test to see how the battery will be affected. I have not installed or customized anything yet with exception of xabber app that I use for IM. Just did a full charge of the battery leaving it on charger for another 5 hours after it reached 100%. I pulled the power plug on Tuesday night at 10pm. Right now that I'm typing is Thursday 3pm and the battery still shows 7% left. I have been using it regularly by checking e-mails SMS, and IM via xabber app. So it is carring me over 42 hours of service without charging. I should clarify that also Wi-FI, GPS, and BT are ON. This timing is amazing compared to Galaxy note I I have used till last week. I have ordered three 3500mAh Yesoo batteries, but the original battery that came with the phone is pretty good. I will measure if this timing will hold as I keep adding apps on it.

Well I watch youtube a lot and play games. As An example last night when I finished I make sure I have no apps open (long holding the home button and swiping). I had, I believe about 20-30% battery left. Screen was off, you know when you press that right button ... screen is off? well it was off. After about 6 hours the battery is dead ... no usage ... is that right?

I've checked monitoring apps and it just shows Google services as eating up 40% of battery. I've gone into settings>accounts>google and made sure that in my email accounts only contacts and googlemail are ticked for syncing. Even then I can't seem to get this google services below 30% battery usage.

Main thing is even when idle ... 20% drains to 0% in about 5-8 hours ... is that normal?

My old iphone (that i hardly have used since i got this) lasts for days when not doing anything. Still on 40% after about 4 days non usage

Thats why I was asking.... I have to charge this bad boy at least once a day

what is your sync/poll frequency? Is it polling for new mail every 1 hour? I think this is the default.

WOW! from 12 to about 6:30 - 7:00 when i leave to work i usually check the time, but i notice that i only use about 3% of battery. I never really paid attenttion, but ill test tonight to see for sure how much is spent.

my average is about 18 hrs and about 4-5 hours of screen on time and i still have left over juice.

Hell...i have tried to kill it a few times at night so i can fully chartge it and honestly the phone out lasts me. Ill wake up in the morning and it still be on giving me plenty more play time while im on the train finally dieing at work. Ill fully charge it, but then it throws my day/battery time off if you know what i mean.

I'm not sure how to check that ... when I go to account>google>

It comes up with accounts ... aka my emails then below that it says privacy and there are: maps & Latitude, Search, location, google, adds then at bottom sync all (see attached screen shot)

In one i only have sync contacts and sync gmail checked and the other one only has sync gmail checked.

I'll check again tonight but it drains from like 20-30% to zero in about 6 hours.

Ok I did another test last night ....

... Battery was about 40% at 2am ... I did have some apps in the background running that I forgot to close like youtube, application manager and a few others (about 6 in total) ... as of 1pm with no usage the battery was down to 9%

Seems some days it drains fast and other days it does not ... argh lol

    Will keep monitoring.

PS see screen shot .. this time only about 15 hours usage

Do you use the stock email app to get google mail? or you just use the regular gmail app? If you use the stock app then the sync schedule is in there. I use the stock app as I have three mail accounts from google, comcast and yahoo.

    Im using gmails own app

I dont have the stock email set up.

Well today Full charge was done at 1pm and at about 4pm it was down to 85% with no usage (maybe just one or two email checks)

Just feels unusual. I mean the battery on this beast is huge so would surely use 1 day and a half even at battery. My iphone 4 with playing games, youtube etc would last a day but would still have about 20% juice left in it...

... maybe a second battery would do the trick ... maybe that desktop samsung wireless charger thing

Its a pain in the @@@ having to charge it lol ... usb charging is very slow ... I've found plugging to a wall socket the charge is a lot faster.... ideall taking your example ... id want to turn it on at 6am and then not have to worry about a charge until 9pm or late evening when I still have 10-20% battery left:)

I guess we can only dream :)

Maybe in the Galaxy Note 3

probably no useful info here, but i figured i might add my stats:

    start at 7:00am 100%
morning commute an hour of IHeart Radio
15 min of movie ( i added the other day ) at break time
a couple text messages and emails and websites visted.
i usually turn on phone a few times an hour just to see if i missed anything
    at 12:00pm im at 75%
lunch time i turn on foxfi for an hour and played GuildWars2 on the laptop ( mentioned becuase its a steady stream of info passing through phone )
one text message and a couple of more screen on and offs
at 3:00pm im at 55% with about 2 hours of screen time on.

I gather im running about 5% an hour so far and at this rate ill make it til midnight with no problems and a little left over. This does sound about right judgeing by the last few days and where i was at when i plugged her in at night.

Dont get me wrong I constantly play with the phone, but i dont do much, but the battery does last.

Thanks for that! I had to connect my phone to the pc so it's started to charge again but I'll do a similar test to see what we come up with.

Also under google accounts I have unticked sync google contacts so now I am only syncing gmail for the 2 emails. See if this changes anything as google services is a battery drain

In account setting in the main setting, you only get to choose what to sync and what to not. You also need to go into each individual email/messenger/SNS app setting to tinker with sync frequency, period to pull, etc to reduce battery drain. As for gmail, I set it to sync last two weeks of emails. Default was one month.

Thanks for that! I didn't know that. I had it set at 30 days ... changed it to 14 days to see if it helps:)

    Just for others

    You go into gmail app

Click the left soft key button and then click on your email account (not general settings) ...then under data usage it shows 'Days of mail to sync' I think default is 30 as that's what mine was on ... I've changed it to 14 days ... see if it helps:)

I assume this means that only the last 14 days worth of emails will show?

Also you better check location setting in the google map. I forgot to mention this. See if things like location report, sharing, history are checked and make sure to uncheck them all. Those settings are triggered by activating google now and it's known battery drain in JB.

I don't know if its me but this is looking a lot better ... still at 100% battery usage since last charge which was 50 minutes ago. Ok whilst typing its gone to 99% at 51 minutes but i think its a lot better. Although I havent used the phone much apart from checking emails. I'll test this tonight so charged it full at 11pm ... will see how it does and let you guys know
