I was quite frustrated earlier with my battery performance. I turned off:

    - WiFi
    - Bluetooth
    - "Use wireless networks"
    - Gmail/Email pull and Auto-sync (but leave the "Background data" on)
    - "Enable GPS satellites"
    - Weather update
    - "Enable Always-On mobile" (but leave the "Mobile network" ticked)
    - and let Twitter/Facebook to automatically update only once/twice a day.

Still the battery was draining very fast. The only thing I did not turn off is the 3G.

Yesterday I decided to switch to 2G and replace the built-in SMS with Handcent SMS. To my very surprise, the battery life improves greatly.

I will now do a test to see how fast it drains. I have just fully charged the unit and will update it here once I get the result.

web browsing is surprisingly fast on 2g. Disable javascript to curb any slow down from 3g to 2g.

Im getting 7-am to midnight with 15% still to go. Can't be bad to that. Getting plenty of use too

maybe a dumb question but where exactly do I set my phone to 2G? I have the Sprint HTC Hero. Is this possible with this device? Thanks in advance.

OK, as promised, here is the result:

I left my unit to drain itself for more than half a day. No call made or received. No SMS sent or received. No surfing.... basically no activity at all.

After 11 hours, the battery power is at 81% available. At the 13th hour, it shows 76%.

can one of you post a how too for each one to turn off

    for example menu/networks/wireless/ uncheck

something like that with this phone being new, looking for some of the items may frustrate others.

I did another test and this time with 3G turned on. Surprisingly, after 11 hours, the battery is still 88% available (with 3G off it is 81%).

I looked into the specs of HTC. It seems that for standby 3G uses lower battery. For talk time, 3G uses more battery.
