my thoughts on the 4.0 updateGeneral

I have had 5 lines with VZW for nearly 4 years. I have come to rely on my LG Spec heavily. Could I live without my device...yes, am I willing to live without my device...no. Now when I purchased the Spec I was aware of ICS coming to Android devices and talked to the VZW rep about what devices would be getting the 4.0 update. He told me that devices had to meet certain specifications in order to receive the update. At the time of my purchase the LG Spectrum had the best specifications of all the devices available and the Verizon sales rep said "because of this fact the LG Spectrum is on the list to receive the update". This played a large part in deciding to go with the LG over the Moto Razr, HTC Rezound and the Google device.

$240 a month is what my bill averages and I'm enrolled in auto bill pay so theres never a concern with whether or not I'm gonna follow through on my commitment to pay them. I allow Verizon to access my bank account every month and take the money they need from me now I expect Verizon to allow me to access their server and take the 4.0 OTA update I need from them. ;)

The device sold as G-Nex - is also VZW branded and should get jellybean but has not yet - so there also VZW is blowing customers off.

Not to mention G-Nex is not that much of a device compared to the Spectrum
The so called 4.65 inch screen is occupied at the bottom by soft buttons - so actual screen is more like 4.3 inches, then the device has no SD card slot. What were they thinking??

it does have a better processor than the spec... and the no sd slot aint too much of a bad thing... you just have to unlock the bootloader before putting anything on it so you dont have to lose it....

and from my experiences.. anything vzw is always plagued with their crapware.. and slow on updates.... and ive had 3 windows mobile and 3 android phones from them...

Actually I thought that the G-Nexus holds a slower CPU processor clock speed of 1.2 GHz in comparison to the Spec of 1.5 GHz. At least at defaults.

its a stonger processor.. just clocked at a lower speed..

I hold a similar bill plan, with a bit more cost. After 8 years of being a customer and NEVER being late and also purchasing many things, let me tell you, they DO NOT give a ****. I tried to grandfather in unlimited data plans from an antique family share plan to android. After speaking to many CR reps and being sent up tiers to higher ups, still a no go. I have had 3 plans in the 8 years of being a Verizon Wireless customer. Internet fed off minutes through self created WAP server?! Good times.

I have to ask something that I have been thinking about. The Spec 2 undoubtedly will come pre loaded with 4.0. In regards to the hardware the Spec 2 is rumored to be similar to our beloved Spec. If this proves to be true will it be possible to pull ICS from the Spec 2 and load it on our Spec's???

Assuming the specs aren't too far off, this is a very reasonable way of going about it. Most all Galaxy phones use similar ROMs, so porting from one to the other is pretty easy.

WOW...having a member with your experience chime is priceless! Thx for sharing!

Well thats good news, so hopefully the Spec 2 brings the possibility of us getting on 4.0 as well. Hmmm...Soooo what is the release date for the Spec 2 again? LOL :D

BUT... Porting for lg phones isn't a simple endeavor. Porting from the Revolution to the spectrum failed miserably and the spectrum is considered the revolution 2. So we can assume the same will occur when trying to port to and from the spectrum 2. why? Because LG doesn't use the same field names for files needed to get the hardware to communicate with the software. It's different on every phone for reasons not known, so it means the person porting has to know exactly what each file does... Or guess. Both require time and skill and sometimes internal information from LG not easily found.

Haha, my Android experience is fine. I'm an addict, but wouldn't say I'm an expert to any degree. :D

Thanks for this. I knew the Samsung analogy probably wouldn't play out as well as I imagined. Wish you folks had better development for LG phones.

Dunno why they would say the Spectrum was the Revolution 2 as they are completely diff phones in appearance and hardware and would be dayum near impossible to port one to the other. Trust me I am working on both lol.

But yea LG seems to do things their own way much like Samsung does, one line of devicces done completely diff from the next. And even diff within the same family like the iproj line, Nitro, Spectrum, and at least 1 or 2 others.

And like with the Revo and Esteem, same frigging hardware, only difference is the Revo has more internal sd storage than the esteem. But LG did the Esteem differently than the Revo esp in the kernel src, the esteems is a nightmare compared to the revo's.

Yeah the 'Iproj' Board Line consists of LG Nitro HD[P930](GSM) LG Optimus LTE[SU640](CDMA/GSM??) LG Spectrum 4G[VS920](CDMA) LG Optimus True HD LTE[P936](GSM) possibly more..

I dunno man.... The revo is the 'bryce' and this phone is the 'bryce2' in build prop and other files (which you probably noticed in deving the device). Maybe they didn't bother to change the device name on the Spectrum... Or who knows. It's not an upgrade of the revo as far as I can tell, but as far as lg's coding of the device, it is. Baffled me when I first saw it, too.

The update is coming for our spectrum....LG has confirmed it and changed the user manual info on LG company website yet Verizon continues to say they have no idea what I am talking about with the update for spectrum users...im assuming that means it will be out when the spectrum 2 comes out this fall :/ I want this now!!!!f u stupid Verizon people

    MrB206 Well-Known Member

The user manual and 'data sheet' are the same as before, not reflecting the 4.0 update. I just checked. They have an update date of 7/27, so they may have posted the new stuff and reverted until the update is pushed, but the site still reflects 2.3 on the phone in all manuals: LG VS920 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA

Well as of the July 20 it was changed to the updated 4.0 manual

i believe this is all covered in the ' ICS User Manual' thread in all things root. They did post an ICS user manual and then took it down and put the original GB manual back up.

The final question is: which will release first an exact release date of ics for the LG Spectrum or the release/launch date of Spectrum 2? And if the spectrum 2 does come out first will the first gen get ics also
