i don't think anyone outside of LG or Verizon can really answer your question.

Logically, they're going to both get 4.0.4. If they're deving that version for us, it reasons to say they'd do the same for the spectrum 2.

And that the spectrum two will launch before we get ICS. From a marketing stand point, the more "new stuff" the next model has, the more sales you get out of it.

I'm a fairly moderate and level guy, but that DOES make it seem it comes with gb and you can upgrade to ics when you activate. A tad deceptive, but better than them saying it comes with ICS, I guess.

I wish they'd just stop saying "soon" and say "Well yes, but a few months"

In litigation, that means "Sure, it can be, and is capable of, but we decided not to." :D

I finally got the right VZW tech and he approved an extremely early upgrade (had my Spec since Feb 22nd) to the Galaxy S III based on the fact that I hadn't recieved the 4.0 update as promised. I will continue to be active and donate to dev'n here on the Spec forums and use my Spec for play time but I will be using my GS III as a daily device. I know there's a lot of buz about the Galaxy S III and I'm sure a lot of the Spec members here are curious so here's my opinion...seriously, the GS III is by FAAAAAR the best all around device I have ever had the pleasure of using and Ive had a few. I really can't put into words how damn smooth this thing is both stock and on Synergy Rom. If the way the GS III operates on ICS is any indication to the way our Spec will function as well then were gonna see some serious imrovements! :D

Did you wind up loosing your unlimited data, if you had that package?
  16. MrB206

    MrB206 Well-Known Member

I would assume so, since you have to pay full retail to keep unlimited data.

Ya, but if he somehow got his upgrade date made retroactive to when he got his spectrum maybe not? Not sure if they'd do that much for someone.

I tried the 'retroactive' dating when I wanted an early upgrade... the VZ system doesn't allow it. BUT, the manager of the call center can authorize an override, which allows you to get the upgrade early. It usually takes severe dissatisfaction with a phone or complaint about the upgrade date variances on your account (that's what I used.. and that the D3 was released a month after I got my D2) to get an early upgrade, but managers can easily override and authorize the 'upgrade' price.

Regardless, some of the fine print on the new 'share everything' plan I got in the mail, sent to people with unlimited plans, is 'You may keep your unlimited data, but will not receive the reduced phone pricing'. I don't imagine they budged on that for him... maybe though.... would be interesting to hear.

Sorry guys just put the last little one to bed...

Ummm ya I was on an unlimited plan and as MrB mentioned unless I was willing to pay full retail I lost my unlimited plan. It's not a big deal though my heaviest usage was a few months back and I barely topped 2 gig's. Most of my time is spent at home on my ATT wifi...like now. The 2 gig plan is one penny more than my unlimited plan $29.99 compared to $30. I now have my Spec on my 5th line (was the Bionic), which is unlimited, and I use it for the upgrade mostly. The way it was explained to me was...provide a device then you keep can keep the unlimited plan...purchase a new device on an unlimited line and loose the unlimited data unless ofcourse your willing to pay full retail.

The first alternative was to give me a Nexus for the price of the battery basically an even swap.

I gotta say again though this SG III 32 GB is one serious contender from top to bottom this thing is buttoned up tight and smooth as butter. I was stock for a 24 hour period, purposely threw everything I could at it, and I never once had the slightest lag...its definitely a heavy hitter.

Theres one feature that would be a good 'add' to a Spec custom Rom and its a Power saving mode. It basically is a one click on/off toggle that alters the cpu settings, adjusts the screen frame rate & brightness, changes the background color in email & browser, stops the haptic feedback and a couple more things I cant think of now. It could be added to the pull down notification toggles. I adjust all that kind of stuff myself but I have to say it's cool being able to do it all at the click of a button.

My thoughts on the ICS update....... Its taking unreasonably long to be pushed out

It really comes down to each person with unlimited plans doing the math and seeing if it makes sense to update their plan. If you use <4gb data, then the $20/month in savings for a 4gb plan (just an example.. that's what I personally would save), combined with the subsidized phone may make sense; saving $600-800 on the phones, plus $240 a year in the bill is far less than I would EVER spend on data, even if I suddenly became a high-data user. Now, if you're doing 100gb+ a month, it may behoove you to stay on unlimited... but again, people need to factor in the subsidy price, because it's a substantial savings. Of course, you *can* buy from eBay and other sites, but for me personally, I like to know my phone is brand new when I get it, especially when I pay a few hundred dollars.

My thing is they should allow insurance on all devices, new or used since this new bullshit. That's one we all should revolt against the red machine on.
  23. MrB206

    MrB206 Well-Known Member

I don't believe the insurance is restricted to new devices. I bought a new device off ebay and when I lost it, I was able to get a replacement through Asurion. Asurion doesn't know what phone you bought initially, but if they don't have a replacement available, they won't complete the claim. That happened to my wife's purple razr... They only had black ones, so we didn't complete the claim.
