look for "flashing vibrant using odin" on xda. there are many tutorials on that and it's really easy. with odin you can flash your phone to the original or a custom firmware. just make sure to find the right firmware for you, even though if you don't there is always a way to go back with odin.

Download the Samsung drivers from here and install them on your computer

After you download the drivers, you have to double click the file and install the drivers to your computer. After you install the drivers, do the following:

    Power phone off
Plug USB to computer but not phone
    Open Odin.exe
Plug the USB into your phone while holding down the volume keys (Don't touch power!)
One of the fields will turn yellow in ODIN
Click PIT and select the 512.pit file
Click PDA and select the .tar file (for whatever rom you are flashing)
    Click start

Odin will do it's thing and then the phone should reboot. It will take a few minutes for it to reboot the first time.

DO NOT CLICK RE-PARTITION WHEN USING Update.tar!

This worked for me in a similar situation.

I'm pretty sure it's a bad idea to use Vibrant ROMs on an I9000 or vice versa, as they're not exactly the same phone
