    Hi,

My first post here. I finally took the plunge and rooted my eris. I used the Universal 1 click method and then installed KaosFroyov38. Now, before I rooted, I backed up a few things to my pc, but like a newb neglected a few others. Should have used Titanium... :(

I made a nandbackup, but only at step 5 of this guide that I followed: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...pcs-no-scripts-needed-easy-4.html#post1592720

My question is, if that nandbackup is good enough for me to go back to and retrieve a couple of things that I didn't back up (i.e. sms, app settings, and browser data) and then flash kaosfroyo again?? Or am I SOL for not doing a nandbackup right after step 9??

Please excuse my ignorance and anyone's brain cells I killed with my post. And thank you to the people in this community that gave my bloated phone new life. :)

The nand backup is an exact copy of what your phone looked like at the time you did the backup. If there are settings in that nand that you know you want, then yes you can restore the nand and use Titantium to backup the app.

Before you do that, make a nand of your current set up so that you can easily get back to where you currently are. Then TB to restore the app and/or it's settings.

Note that there are some settings that don't transfer well from a 2.1 ROM to a 2.2 ROM. I would recommend that you stay away from any system apps. And I don't THINK that browser data will transfer, but you can give it a try. If you try to restore something that totally messes up your phone you've always got a nand to go back to.

I recommend the free app SMS Backup & Restore for SMS messages, actually. If your experience is the same as mine, you are not going to be able to Titanium Restore SMS messages from an HTC 2.1 ROM to any of the Froyo ROMs.

Third party app settings for apps that you have installed should be good.

    Thank you!

OK, I managed to restore the nand and go back to my starting point. I then did my backing up by using the SMS Backup & Restore app as well as the mybackup app. But, when I tried using Titanium, it wouldn't run because it couldn't acquire root privileges!? I went back to the recovery menu and re-flashed the rootme.zip, but that didn't help. Titanium still doesn't recognize root. Don't know why...

Either way, are the 2 apps I used sufficient for backing up purposes, or does Titanium offer much more?
Finally, since Titanium causes problems restoring sms messages on a 2.2 rom like froyo, will the free SMS Backup & Restore app cause problems as well?

Quick answer: no. The only thing that I have noticed about SMS Backup & Restore is that it does not do a good job of detecting duplicate messages, so if I Nandroid restore between two ROMs I click the button within the app to delete messages and then I restore. But if you are flashing a ROM (or doing a data wipe and reinstalling from scratch) you can just do a Restore and you're all set.

I go back and forth between 2.2 and 2.1 ROMs using SMS Backup & Restore.
