I am trying to run MetaMorph so I can install a custom lockscreen. I get a message saying it can't set up some files, and to check the space in /system.

Apparently I have to do a nandroid unlock, but I can't find any forums that tell me how to do it. I am rooted, I have done a nandroid backup, and I'm running DamageControl 2.09.01. Can anyone tell me how to do the unlock or where to find instructions?

I guess I don't know as much as I thought about this stuff.

I think nandroid unlock is just when you have access to recovery mode, but I'm not positive.

Here's a little more about the problem, maybe this will help. When I had the problem with MetaMorph I emailed the dev. He asked me try to copy a file into /system. I tried and although it appeared to do it (the file manager showed a piece of paper flying from one folder to another), the file didn't appear in /system. I tried it a few times with small files.

The dev told me I needed to a nandroid unlock to be able to access /system. Then I can run MetaMorph and install the lockscreen.

From what it sounds like, you DO have nandroid unlock.

Sounds like you need to do an adb push to the system folder.

    How did you root?

    I used Asroot2 and then

    adb push asroot2 /data/local/
    adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
    adb shell
    /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh

    mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
    cd /system/bin
    cat sh > su
    chmod 4775 su

Then I flashed recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2 and put DamageControl on it.

Ok, so put the file you need to push into /system on your computer in c:\android-sdk-windows\tools\

Reboot the phone into recovery and hook up the cable to your computer. Open CMD on your computer.

    Type:
    cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools\
    adb devices
    adb shell
    mount /system
    cd /system/bin
    cat sh > su
    exit
    adb push filename.ext /system
    adb shell reboot

The phone will reboot, you can exit CMD and the file will be in the /system folder like the developer said is needed.

The problem is I don't know what file(s) to write. I installed MetaMorph and ran it. The first time runs, it does some tests before you can use it. Then it tells me that some files couldn't be set up/unpacked and to check the amount of space in /system.

I can email the dev again and see if he can help. There must be some way to "unlock" /system to write to it any time.

Is there another way to install lockscreens? Maybe there's an easier option.....

I had a problem with the process in that link. When I got to

    # busybox --install /system/bin

I get a message saying it is an illegal instruction. I found a thread on another site that had similar instructions with that line missing. So I tried to skip that and go on with the rest but MetaMorph still did the same thing.

I've been looking around other forums and sites. The instructions are all similar but a little different. I'm wondering if something is just a little different for my Hero than whatever they were doing it on in those instructions?

Well, I've tried for half of the day to get Metamorph to work with no luck... that being said, I'm MORE THAN HAPPY to help you get the theme on through other methods.

Which theme do you want on the phone? Link?

And you said you are running DC 2.09.01, correct?

I wasn't trying to get a new theme at this point, although I would like to do that at some point. All I was trying to do was get the lockscreen that is in the link I posted yesterday. On that page it has the XML control file and it says it needs MetaMorph to install it.

If I can figure that out I might try to install a theme.

I appreciate all of the help.

Well, I have something that may or may not work... not sure as I'm not running DC.

If you want to make a nandroid backup and give it a shot, let me know.

PM me your email address so I can send you a file... You'll need to try pushing the attached file to your phone through adb.

As said before, I'm not sure if this is going to work or not but figure it's worth a shot.... If it doesn't work, restore your nandroid backup.

Instruction on how to do this are HERE.
