So after I introduced myself and made mention that I am running iGo 8 on my Eris, it seemed that this may be of interest.

So, i shot a real quick video to show you a bit about how it looks.

Kinda cool looking. Couldn't find it in the Market. I went to their web page - it didn't list the Eris as a device that supports it, but it apparently does.

    I should have clarified.

This is not in the marketplace and for whatever reason their website doesn't list the Eris as a supported device.

Not sure if someone ported it or if one of the supported devices is the same as the Eris.

Either way, its as good...probably better than my wifes garmin.

I heard that Google Maps can't find itself when in Europe.

    Thanks

Isn't "Nav n Go iGo 8" just for Europe? I don't see a North American version on the Website. Also, it does not natively support the 320x480 resolution.

"iGO My way 2009" looks much better and it's available for the Android. It also uses Navteq for navigation.

Is Waze available in the market? How come I've never heard of these?? The navigation upgrade is what I've been wanting the most out of 2.whatever!

By the way, Waze blows. I wouldn't waste my time with that ever again.
    Awaiting that upload. :D

Yeah, i checked out waze. Its like using google maps in comparison to a new garmin (garmin being iGo)

Im working on the goods now.

Oh and as Yosef stated, I was wrong, this is indeed I Go My Way 2009.

The program is really for Europe, however, with USA maps, The program is for USA.

I dont know much about what is supported or what the what country its supposed to be for.

What i do know is that I have it working and working great and wanted to share my experience with you all.

Don't get me wrong, i tried some version of this and other navs that didnt work, but i finally figured out what does work and works well.

Yes, Waze is available in the market and it is free. It is kind of in its infant stages right now. It doesn't offer a lot of the bells a whistles that some of the other GPS apps have. However, if you need directions and/traffic information then it is great.

I'm disappointed in the Google Maps app on the Eris. I liked the Blackberry GM app better. I'm still looking for a "Favorites" on the Android app. I used to save directions to individual places as Favorites, and now I can't.

I think recommending Waze hurts people more than it helps them. Bloody thing had next to no streets on the maps of my area, and had no idea where it was taking me. I'd recommend following static directions in google maps long before I'd recommend trying to use Waze.

Waze is arguably the first piece of Android software I have grown to hate.

And last I looked at it, it couldn't map a route over about 150 miles...

Wisepilot looks pretty good. I put it up against my Garmin 765WT during the 5 day trial on a 200 mile trip to a place I'd never been before, and it actually came up with a better route. I ended up returning the Garmin due to bugs, but that's a whole other story...

So this Waze app evidently is no good for trips over 150 miles and is less than ideal for use in areas that are (how do I put this delicately)...somewhat less than a major metropolitan area.

So, for trips within 150 miles of major cities like NY, Chicago, and SF it 's OK? The price is definitely right.

Waze as a navigation tool blows. it doesn't recognize my streets that have been there 10 years and it also has streets labeled wrong. I can't even get it to recognize the biggest malls name. I wouldn't trust it to navigate me to the grocery store much less on a long trip.

You are all forgetting that Waze is a user generated app. YOU using it helps put in the streets and such that are missing. YOU (the one who actually lives in the area and knows the streets) are the one who is supposed to help correct the mistakes. This has the potential to make it the most up to date navigation type of app available on the Android. The others use older maps, probably a year or more old that wouldn't show new roads. With Waze, you can instantly enter the new road info and it will show up for everyone instead of waiting a year for other programs to go around and update theirs.

The reason it "blows" in your area is because there aren't many Android users in your area using it. As more people use it, it will far exceed any other navigation program. However, as is kind of the standard mentality in the U.S., most people are lazy and don't want to contribute. They want everything handed to them on a silver platter while others do all the work.

Just a reminder.... linking to commercial (pay-to-use) or otherwise restricted software contravenes Android Forums rules.
