Can anyone tell me how to setup a google apps (no gmail) account on a Droid X? I set it up on my Fascinate easily.

I need to set SSL for outgoing, and TLS for outgoing. The Droid X only gives me the option of "use secure connection".

The thing is, i got it to work as a regular email account last night, but then it stopped working. We have one ATT account through yahoo, and the google apps account from our private website.

I tried setting it up as a gmail account since the settings are the same, but get the error "cannot establish a reliable data connection to the server."

Can someone help me. This is my Mom's phone and she can't get emails. So much for "smart phones". I get the feeling that Motorola dropped the ball on this one.

    Thanks.

I thought i clarified in the original post that this was not a gmail account. Same settings, but not quite the same.

If you don't know what google apps is, you probably can't help. its where google lets you host your website email on their servers, but you still have a private address, you@your-site.com.

i use this for all my client sites and it has worked on every phone perfectly except the X.

Ohh, well I dont have a webserver from Google, But I have made several websites and have several webservers... like yourname@domain.com

    I got it.

What are your server settings? Can you get into a cpanel?

All of my MX records are good to go. I actually change them in WHM on my dedicated server to point to Google servers. I never use local mail.

The problem is Droid X. There is no option to choose TLS, SSL, etc.. This is a flaw in the phone.

BUT, my Verizon store guy just called and problem solved. They are giving me my free Fascinate and I'm switching here over to that. She hates the X because she can't see it outside of get email.

However, being the perfectionist type, I would love to know the solution in case I run into it in the future. I do like the Droid X, its just the Fascinate is soooo much easier to use. Its like Motorola tries to make it harder.

Aww, well I'm sorry to hear that. I hope the facinate works out for you ;)

On a side note: SSL is available, I use it for my personal Email. But the phone does lack lots of thing at this point :(

Hopefuly 2.2 Will bring lots of fixes that were MIA in the 2.2 leak.

Haha, yeah, Motorola is not very user friendly, even for us technologically advanced people. I tend to be OCD about things like this too. Most I can say is that hopefully they will create some nice ROM's. If they make one running Sense, I am all over it. Sense (On my old Eris) was WAY easy to handle and I found it Looked and Ran a LOT better as well. Moto really needs to drop this for a stock Android version (Or at least steal some HTC developers lol).

    As Far as the solution:

    SSL
Go to "Menu" -> "Settings" -> "Accounts" -> *Your Email Account* -> "Incoming Server"
-Check: "Use Secure Connection" and "Verify Certificate"

    TLS
Unfortunately, the default Email app does not support TLS on SMTP. Here are some alternate solutions though:

    1) Get "Touchdown"

    3) Get "MailDroid"

    2) Set up either your existing or a new gmail account to grab messages from the server of your choice and then use that account on your phone.

    All the best,
    Eric

I think they all lack something. The Fascinate has not led indicator. A real bummer, but maybe some solution soon.

The Fascinate is easier to use and has a brilliant display. I have mine on 35% and it jsut glows!

In regard to SSL on the X, I didn't see it anywhere. And there are NO solutions anywhere on the web or here. I can't believe I'm the only person trying to setup a google apps account on an X. I guess there is a first for everything. Lol.

    Updated my post ^

    Edit:
Your webserver should def. allow you to not use TLS. It's a very awkward security method.

It has to be TLS. This is used for gmail and google apps. Google is very picky about this. I have over 20 client sites running it with no issues in two years.

Tried it all. It worked, all emails imported, and then quit working. Definitely something with the X.

The Fascinate has a combined inbox. Hit your email icon on desktop, and all account conveniently listed. Very nice. Cheaper phone, better features.

Hijacking this a bit, but a little bit different.

I just set up google apps for our company to share documents. I did not use our company domain, say xyz.com but an offshoot, xyz.org. We are not using our main email thru google doc/apps, but we do use the gmail part when we are logged in to google apps as notification that a change to a doc was made.

I want to be able to get this on my phone, and also see the google docs there.

I thought I could add another gmail account, myname@xyz.org , but it is not taking that.

How do I get my gmail and g docs on my phone?

    Thanks.

need to have imap set in email account!
