Ok, I've rooted my Eris and have am wanting to use the Wired Tether app. For whatever reason, I cannot get my Windows 7 PC to connect to it. If somebody could walk me through the steps to get it connected, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have searched and come up empty on results. People say it asks to update/install drivers, it needs ndis drivers, etc, but I'm not sure exactly what all that means or even how to do it. For example, to even get to that point, which option do I select on my Eris when I connect it? Sync? Charge only? Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you considered using the wireless tether app? You can install it on your phone and not have to mess with any drivers. Once its installed, run the app and tell your computer to connect to the android wireless and it should be fine from there. Heres the link if youre interested:

Once you are to this point, grab "wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk" from Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code

To answer your original question, when you connect the phone it will give you a fourth option of "Internet Sharing". Select that and the drivers will install themselves. At least they did on my Win XP machine.
If you do not have that option then the ROM's kernel has not been properly modified for wired tether.
I am currently using the KaosLegendary V.12 and the wired tether works just great!!!

I downloaded an updated kernel from the wired tether website. How do I install it? I don't have that internet option when i connect so that has to be the problem. I will give a 16gb microsd card to the one who helps me get this working. Thanks in advance.

Through trial and error I have found that the Legend based ROMs have the wired tether working.

I have tried Ivan's v.8 to no avail.

    What ROM do you have?

You are on KaosLegendary v.12, same as I am.

First, follow the directions in this post by NefariousAryq.
That will hopefully get your usb drivers to work on Windows 7.

Plug your phone into your computer. Select "Internet Sharing" when it asks.
On your computer go to Control Panel...Network Connections.
If you can list all of the connections do so. Look for the one listed with NDIS in the description. Right-click and refresh it.

You should be on the internet via your phone.

I followed the post, dropped the INF file into the folder, and nothing happened. I only have 3 options when I connect...Charge Only, HTC Sync, or Disk drive. What do I have to do to get that Internet Sharing option? I'm clueless. Thanks in advance for the help, Murphy.

Unfortunately it sounds like it didn't install fully. Backup all of your apps if you haven't already. I use Titanium but you can also use AppBrain.

Then you will have to do a factory wipe and dalvik wipe, then flash the KaosLegendaryv12.zip again.

You will know that you have it installed properly when you go to plug it in and it gives you that fourth option of internet sharing.

Go to this thread on another forum for the latest download.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660512

Put that zip file on the sd card of the phone.
    Power down the phone.
    Press volume up and power.
Use the trackball to select Wipe and press the trackball.
Select Wipe factory and press the trackball.
When down use Vol Down to go back to first menu.
Use trackball to select Flash Zip and press trackball.
Select the KaosLegendary zip file you installed and press the trackball.
You will need to press it again to confirm.
    When done select Reboot.

When I try and do any Tether App, it brings me to the SU Request and just stays on a black screen...am I doing something wrong?

Connect your phone to your computer, making sure that USB Debugging is on on the phone.
Open a command prompt and navigate to your Android SDK/Tools directory.
    Type "adb shell".
You should see a "$", now type "su".
A dialog will pop-up on the phone, select Always Allow.
You should then see a "#" on the computer screen.

Now disconnect the phone and start your tether app. Select Always Allow when it asks for SU rights.

+1 on this. I was trying to use apps that required su access and my su request would pop up and just stay black until it forced closed. Somehow my usb debugging got turned off, I bet that is your problem. once i turned mine off, everything went back to normal

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I am having the same issue. Rooted Eris running XtraSense. I don't have the "Internet Sharing" option either.
