I have a Motorola Milestone 2.1 update unrooted. I need it to run Java for my stock ticker application. Can I run java from an unrooted phone? Does rooting the phone allow java applications to run? I am new to Android.

Neither rooted nor unrooted Android phone will run java. CONvert your app to Android *.apk application to run it on the Milestone.

Not sure if I am using the correct terminology. I am trying access my stocks on a website. The stocks are updated in real time In order to get these real times update, the website requires that the java add on be installed. This is fine for my laptop running Windows 7, but how can I do this on my Milestone? There is no application that I am using, it the website that requires java add-on. What can I do to fix this?

AFAIR the stock browser has a Java plugin, you may check in settings that it is activated.

Also try some other browsers like Dolphin, SKyfire etc.
