Needing Bluetooth to work with BMW iDrive

Can the EVO 3D have use Froyo?.. I have an OG EVO and I am having issues with my bluetooth every since I took the OTA to Gingerbread.. Being that there is no root. I am considering other options.. I know you guys now have root access.. (Congrats).. I just wanted to know if I could run Froyo on this device.. All responses are welcome.. Thanks in Advance.

I haven't seen a Froyo rom for the 3D.

But it does feature Bluetooth improvements - what's the trouble? Maybe we can feed back if the 3vo has it or not.

My issue is that I have a 2006 BMW with iDrive.. And my Bluetooth Pairs.. But the contacts do not sync. So I cannot dial from the iDrive system.. I have to make calls directly from my phone which is not safe. When I was on Froyo the Bluetooth paired flawlessly and all of my contacts synced perfectly. But after the upgrade to Gingerbread that functionality was lost.

I noticed it was gone when I would add new numbers and I would not see it in my contact list in the iDrive. I figured if I did a factory reset I would be okay. I did the factory reset and none of my contacts synced at all. I had the same issue with my Samsung Epic. The Epic was running 2.3 as well and I was never able to get the contacts to sync. Even after I flashed different roms.. Which prompted a switch to the Evo only to have the Evo upgraded to Gingerbread.. It is very frustrating. I have love for android. But if this is going to be a recurring issue. I probably will make the switch to an iPhone..

Once again all feedback is welcome. I know the bluetooth version on my Evo 4G is 2.1 + EDR. Is that the same Bluetooth version on the 3VO?..

Nope, we've got Bluetooth 3.0 - but I'd decline suggesting that that means it might work for your application.

With your permission, I'm going to move this over to the general section where you might have a wider audience and who knows? Maybe another iDrive user to square away what's really what here.

IMO it's an OS issue. I traded my Samsung Epic that was running 2.3 for the Evo and the Epic had the same issue.. It seems like Gingerbread doesnt work well with some of the older BMW's.

I am computer savvy but not really a dev. If I could I would figure out a way to make a rom with the Bluetooth version from Froyo to alleviate this.. Either that or build an app if possible..

I'd read that the AOSP roms were curing this but the HTC Sense ones continued to have problems.

They just went _almost there_ in a few places on the Bluetooth implementation.

It's not like this wasn't working before, as you noted.

Really?! The AOSP Roms were curing this?. My girlfriend still has the Epic.. If I rooted her phone with the AOSP rom do you think I could get that functionality back?.. Is there an AOSP rom for the Epic?. Let me look into this..

That's what I read while skimming as applied to the Evo - definitely a maybe for the Epic, worth checking out!
