I have an evo and wife has the epic, I called tech support last night the epic was going her problems sending text messages after the lady fixed it. She said thank you for being a premiere customer and s said I see you live in a 4g area perfect for our 2 4g capable phones and one coming out later this year. I asked her what the new 4g phone was she got quiet for a minute like she had slipped up and than said I'm not at liberty to discuss it. I said ok cause we are happy with the evo and epic anyway. Anybody haber any idea what the new 4g phone she is talking about?

I just looked at the specs...DO NOT WANT.

If it has a 7" screen, I'll take the generic tablets currently being sold for $135...

To compete with the iPad, it will need a 10" screen at least IMHO.

AFAIK, the Galaxy Tab is not a phone. So the Sprint rep may be referring to another device. Plus, it's no secret that the Tab is coming to all carriers. It's been in news articles for weeks now. She wouldn't have to be hush-hush about it.

    no. it says 4G phone.
i'm hoping a variant to the Desire Z/G2/Merge is coming to Sprint. HTC hasn't dropped a qwerty on Sprint in a bit now. and if you haven't seen pics of the Merge, it's pretty hot. features dual mode CDMA/GSM, too. i believe it'll be a 45nm chip. 4" screen (which is the sweet spot imo) and 5mp cam.

Verizon/T-Mo get the best looking phones still :(
but there's gotta be something coming to Sprint before the end of the year.

    agreed

And verizon is getting the R2-D2 Droid. I suspect this phone is going to be super duper popular.

Well I hope whatever phone it is HTC/Sprint don't abandon the EVO. I just bought mine last week and I hope it stays "current" for at least a year.

WIth new phones coming out on Sprint do you all think the Evo has a pretty decent lifespan with updates etc? I dont want it to be a dinosaur in 6 months...:(

That is sweet. Remote wipe as a stock option is really nice.

As a functional device, there's no way the Evo will become obsolete in 6 months. Yes, there will be newer phones with faster processors, maybe better screen resolutions, camera, etc, but just because another phone is now better than the Evo doesn't make your Evo worthless.

Web browsing, checking email, using apps, etc are all very good as-is on the Evo, and that won't magically degrade in 6 months or longer. If you're the type of person that doesn't need the latest and greatest the instant it comes out, I'm sure you will squeeze out a lot of value from your Evo. Even if it doesn't get the new Sense.

From the looks of This article, there will be a Blackberry 4G out in December 2010.

The article mentions there is no carrier yet but seeing as Sprint are the only 4G company out there, I'd imagine they'd be pretty likely to carry it.

    Thanks for the post
    :)

Yeah I'm not the person who really needs the latest and greatest the MOMENT it comes out. If what you said holds true for the evo I will be just fine to use/have it for a year or so.

EVO won't be obsolete in 6 months. But it will probably cost $99 or so after MIR. Usually high end phones take about a year to become free after rebate.

I saw this yesterday but have to wonder if the Transform will be 4G. Mainly because the Epic has always been called the Epic 4G. If it was to be only 3G I'd be very interested in it. I really don't think I'll get enough use out of the 4G to warrant the extra $10 fee but I don't like the other phones Sprint offers. This would hit the nail on the head for me if 3G. Wonder when more information will be available?

    ^^This...

I think that's what the person was probably speaking of. The next Blackberry is supposed to be 4G on Sprint's network.

and might be a variant of the torch but the samsung tab isnt 4g.. nothing about 4g in the sprint release (which kind of is sad you would think they would take advantage of 4g more but guess not). The reason why I say the torch is becasue the flip blacberry from what I saw in the system has no mention of 4g and if rumors about the blackberry/AT&T deal are true it was only a few month deal for the US.

the Last time I was in Best Buy they were peddling the Clear internet, I am this close to switching ( holds fingers up about an inch apart). If my wife's business takes off any more, we may indeed go that route.

just outside my house I can count on 6mb down, compared to 3.5m down from my DSL via wireless.

I just hope Clearwire gets all the kinks worked out of the 4G service before they drop another 4G device. Its a shame that a day after Orlando got 4G, they had a 4G outage. SMH. And I for one will not want to take any calls from angry customers mad because they live in a 4G area and cant get a connection.
