(You don't have to read this first part, it's just me talking about my ex phone ^^)

So, First phone I used was nokia n73 and I really liked it although I had tons of problems with it (camera slider or whatever its called problems, you could hardly hear person you're talking with if you are at some noisy place (almost everywhere :D), most of the apps and games were pretty bad (compared to today 3d ones specially androids...)) but I got used to them and just moved on. Sadly few weeks ago my screen broke (it fell from couple feet high 1000 times literally, but this time even few feet were nuff :'( ). Since then I'm searching for a new phone. HTC was my choice almost emidiatley. But I still can decide which one.

    (Start reading here :D)

Again it's the epic battle HTC DESIRE vs HTC DESIRE HD
    Ok let me start :)
    Why HTC Desire???
It's an epic, epic, epic phone. Multimedia is pretty good, so is camera, apps and games are amazing, so is OS!, colors, widgets all great, of course its not perfect but if Nokia N73 was good 4 me, HTC Desire will probably be a blast :)
    Why HTC Desire HD???
Well, kinda easy isn't it? HTC Desire = epic HTC Desire HD = BOOM :D
Jaw dropping multimedia quality, Amazing 8MP camera, 720p videos, 4.3" screen, amazing processor, all sorts of things are perfect on this phone. Judged from here DHD = PERFECT.
    But is it?
One of the first things even non users like me hear about are Battery problems (can't get a full day out of a single charge, no matter what you do, calibrate, turn on/off all sorts of widgets, updates, whatever), hugeness (barely can fit into pocket, but not really big problem for me thx god), LOADS of other little problems that almost nobody knows why happen (at least thats what my opinion is after going to troubleshooting area of forum ^^), bad speakers, bad volume rocker and power button, if it falls out of your pocket/hand it falls directly on it's camera etc etc.

But those are all little problems that I could fight with and get used after few weeks of use. But I didn't say one of the biggest problems about hd, it's really expensive here in my country where I live. And I really couldn't spend that amount of money on a mobile phone that I couldn't use for a whole day if i decide to watch a movie at work or, browse internet for hour or two a day. That would really kill me...
    So is it worth it?
Please leave your comments, is slightly better camera and videos better than battery problems. Because I hate saying that but why the hell would you want sucha good phone if you can't use it for a whole day.
    Thanks

Battery is terrible. Sound isn't as good as other phones.

Go with a Samsung Galaxy S or iPhone 4.

Ah, once again me and THE ANDROID go to war.

    Let me break this down...

The battery isn't great, but niether are the battery on the two phones he suggested, I actually outcast my iPhone by about 8 hours. If you take time to try and manipulate the battery it lasts a day, easy

Sound also I't great, granted, but its nor as bad as some people make out. I've never even struggled to hear my phone ring, thats just over exaggeration in the extreme.

I used to have a desire and made the move to a DHD, chuffed with the move.

However if you can't justify the expenses, which is perfectly understandable, go with the DESIRE,
    its a cracking phone.

I hope my advice actually is advice and not just me bashing on the phones your considering.

^Lol, I'm just stating it from my experience.
I took both phones to uni today, iPhone 4 and DHD, iPhone 4 had 69% of battery when I got home. DHD had 19%.

Both phones had 3G, Wifi, GPS, Push Notifications on and a few apps running in background.
The iPhone did more browsing and I used it as my main music player and for web browsing.

iPhone 4 clearly beats the DHD in battery life. The whole point of a smartphone is not to put everything to low but use it how you want to and hope for it to last at least a whole day.

My 3GS never made it through out a day last year, the iPhone 4 with the same usage makes 1-2 days easily.
I use my iPhone 4 how I want to and it lasts a day, I use my DHD how I want to and that dies out towards the end of uni.

Also ever since iOS 4, my 3GS battery life has improved greatly also.

Desire is old now, go with Samsung Galaxy S. Front facing camera, SAMOLED screen, Bluetooth 3.0.

How is it clearly better if my iPhone just lasts my day and my DHD p%#*@# on it? And I'm not the only one. I appreciate your experience is your experience but your claiming your experience to be fact, which is wrong. Besides, the guy never asked you to compare iPhone 4 , Nexus S and SGS, he asked you your opinion on the DHD and the original desire.

If you don't like the DHD for whatever reason, suggest he gets the desire, THOSE are the phones hes looking at.

DHD got widget running in the background. Try DHD without any widget and compare with Iphone4. If you want Gingerbread update get DHD. =D

^But an Androids an Android. Why does he want HTC soo bad??
The Galaxy S is by far the best value out of the Android phones. Seeing as he says it's expensive, wouldn't it be better for him to get a phone that actually lasts all day?
I would suggest the normal Desire out of them two. AMOLED screen and a better battery which may last the day unlike the DHD.

Even review sites said the DHD has a crap battery. Why should we turn everything off to conserve battery life? What's the point in a smartphone then? It's HTC's fault for putting in a crap battery.
Even a jailbroken iPhone with Android live wallpapers and widgets lasts a day.
Also iPhone has better games, not Android!

Im getting bored of this, i dont turn everything off at all....apart from GPS and bluetooth when I'm not using them, but thats pretty standard. YOUR battery doesnt last a day and I shall tell you why.

In another thread you posted that you killed apps? Well stop. thats why your battery is so crap.

My phone has loads of widgets, and everything sync i need to be turned on turned on, and my battery last 28 Hours, is that unreasonable? i think not. Stop being naive.

And on your games comment, yeah your right, however when 2.3 comes out, devs will have more utilitys to make high power games. So watch this space.

PLEASE shut up about poor battery, do some research and try and make yours last longer, cause if it doesnt last a day theres something wrong....there really is.

^I see but then won't ram and CPU be used up quick?

But why have they put a battery with such low capacity?

^Not at all, the MT is pretty good, honestly mate, try not killing anything, see how it goes.

Download Watchdog, tells you when you SHOULD kill apps, if there taking up TOO much CPU, try that.

And something to do with the processor, better at handling it.

Have you turned on USB debugging? that could also help you out alot. But yeah killing apps in 2.2 is EVIL.

[FONT=&quot]DHD is the best phone I have ever used.

    * Battery life = not an issue, current charge has lasted me over 25 Hours
    * you said you want to watch movies? well the DHD has a nice big screen to watch movies
    * someone mentioned games, one of the most popular game currently is angry birds, u can get it on iPhone as well as DHD

    * When I got my phone I installed a app killer to, but after some research I removed it and yes I am also getting a better battery life
    * I removed some widgets as I don’t need them
    * I manually enable / disable Wi-Fi as I don’t use net too much. You can get a widget on your home screen which makes it really easy to enable / disable Wi-Fi / mobile internet
    * sync, I have cut low, as I don’t need fb updates every hour / weather info / stock info / etc

Over all I would recommend an android OS phone maybe the DHD, if you’re working in an office mate take the usb cable with u, and just charge the phone with your pc if you have battery issues.

EDIT: when I got the phone I use to let skype run all day and night + wi-fi and even then I got 20H battery life,

Regarding videos, I also used my phone to watch videos via simpsons online, I did 1 hour running + watch simpsons and still easily got a day of the battery. its like someone said in a diffrent thread, your not using a nokia 7610 any more..

EDIT 2 ) If you want a smart phone, you will have to charge it every night, dont want to start talking about other phones but my mate has a iPhone, which hes happy with and am happy with my DHD, wont go into which phone is better but, one thing we both agree on is, u do have to charge the phone everynight, I am 100% sure I use my phone more then him or as same amount as he does but we both charge our phones over night so its fully ready for next day, I have a texting period everyday when I text for 4/5 hours none stop and I can still get a good 24++ hour use out of the phone

BRILLIANT! turn it on, it increases battery life significantly. Aswell as fix sme lag issues.

I dont know exacly what it does, some developer would, but it works! so i do it. :D

I think its handy for app developers, I have the kit installed on my pc, but not had much time to play around with it, but I think it allows developers to debug there developing app to be debuged on the phone, just what I think it is

Somebody said that I should wait for couple of weeks for Nexus S. Well, I'm not from USA so make that couple of weeks -> couple of months and even then it's lottery because we didn't get nexus one in sale here. HTC HD came out couple of weeks ago here so you can laugh about it ^^
Only two logical opitons for me are desire and dhd... Yes, I could get I8700 (crap.) and I could get I9000 for only slightly bigger price than desire. But I still prefer Desire over I9000 and both Iphone 4 and 3GS. DesireHD is the best phone in the world and i wouldn't hasitate buying it for one second if we could count out its terrible battery but sorry, I want at least a day out of my battery no matter what I do, I don't want to turn everything off, have screen brightness on 30% then have 10 programs for task killing, few for battery saving, juice saving apps, always worry about my battery, not be able to watch a 2 hour movie.... no thanks. I know that desire's battery is not perfect, it drains out fast if you use some apps and if you constantly update but one day is almost guaranteed whatever you do (my friend has a desire, he rarely runs out of juice before night, and we constantly watch movies, try out apps, flaslight etc etc
(sorry to say it but I really don't know what the **** was wrong with htc guys to put 1230mAh battery in dhd??? My nokia n73 from 2006 has 1070mAh...)

Anyways big thanks for your help guys, but since im total noob can anyone explain what is usb debugging when do you use it, why do you use it and how?

And yeah, totaly forgot, I heard Android 2.3 is comming (or already came out??) but what I wanted to ask is how do you upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 (As I said, totaly green :D) and do you have a clue how could it be done in foreign countrey?

from what ive read people use it to get an extended battery life and also avoid some lag which can happen sometimes on the phone (which ive not had yet, and hope i never do, or maybe i have and never notised it :S)

    to enable this you go:
menu > settings > applications > development > usb debugging and enable it
