I just got a warranty swap delivered today. Glad to say it's brand new, not a refurb. Anyhow, there is a help app preloaded, with a "?" for an icon. Is this on all units? I have never seen it.

I noticed that too on my replacement unit. Its got the same kind of skin as the t-mobile "my account app" so I'm thinking maybe it's from them. Btw how can you tell if it's new or refurb?

On the refurb question, I may be naive, but I spoke to a warranty supervisor before agreeing to the swap transaction. My issue was elevated above the front line warranty people. This man was well aware that I would rather keep the original phone over taking a chance on a refurb. He said he agreed with me and said with my swap anyway, it would be new. I'm a rather skeptical type of a guy, but I believe him.

Perhaps. FWIW, mine also came loaded with the update. I would assume a refurb would not have that but I dunno.

I would rather take a perfect condition refurbished device than a new one. Why? Because most (if not all) factory refurbished devices are looked at PERSONALLY by a technician and brought up to factory specifications. This is unlike a phone that's coming off an assembly line. Soft button LEDs not lining up? Likely to be missed if it came off an assembly line, but definitely caught if checked by a dedicated technician. Bad 3G antennae? Touchscreen not accurate? A refurbished device would have gotten a once over by a technician. My experience with refurbished devices has been they've been tighter and cleaner than brand new. As long as there are no scratches or other physical defects (usually not the case), refurbished devices are, in some cases, better than brand new.

I will say that this man was very assertive in his answers. I'm not sure what benefit to him it was to lie to me as it would have saved him paperwork for me to just keep my existing phone.

I do agree with this as well. I just had a hangup with swapping a brand new $530 phone for a "gently used" refurb. Mine was an emotional and not a logical point of view. You are entirely correct and logical.

Mine came with the update on board as well and like you, the rep told me I would be getting a new unit. I really don't care as long as it works.

On the app question... do you have a question mark icon (pink) in your app list? I never noticed one before.

Of course. But my question is, do you have the help app with a pink icon in your app list? This is no big deal, I just never noticed it.

Not a tutorial. It directs you to easily change caller tunes, ringtones and wallpapers. If I knew how to take a screenshot and post it, I would.

Entirely different as posted above. It only deals with the above. Strange.

That's not what it is. It does not even have the letters t m o anywhere. It's most assuredly not a tmo app. I have the tmo account app also and it's not that one either.

Sounds to me like you got a refurb and someone's old app on it. :)

when you said this "battery usage, tips and tricks and the ringtone wallpaper " it made me think it was.. cause i have the same thing in the myaccount app. Have you updated your TMO myaccount app? there was an update released this morning

It is somehow associated with the T-Mo app b/c if you hit the pink ? and then the menu soft key you will see button that links you to the T-Mobile "My Account" app.

edit: oh I get it now. If you open the t-mobile "My Account" app and hit the menu soft key and then the ? it shows you the exact same think the ? icon shows in the app tray.
Does that make any sense? In other words, if you've got the "My Account" app, you aren't missing anything. The ? in the app tray is just a shortcut.

Ha! I have already thought the same. I just can't find the corresponding app in the market. Again, no big deal, just a curiosity. It's not even helpful particularly,
