Hi guys,

I've just purchased a new Casio G'Zone Commando C771 that I am planning to use on a Verizon MVNO carrier. I haven't received it yet, hopefully it will arrive later this week. I have three questions regarding this phone:

1. I'm not sure what version of Android will come on this phone, but I'm assuming it will be Froyo. Or did the C771 ever come out of the box with later software releases?

2. Is it possible to install any software updates without using Verizon's service? I'm assuming that if I'm using something like Page Plus/Selectel Wireless/BYO Wireless, that I won't be able to get any upgrades. Is that correct?

3. Final question: I see references to software versions in the archives, M130, M140, M150, etc. Do these correspond/translate to Android point releases, somehow?

Thanks!
Bryan

1. M60 or earlier will be Froyo. M70 or later will be Gingerbread.
2. I have made a script to allow one to install updated off of verizon, but you must be rooted and have fastboot on. Only some version can be updated.
3. The M designation is the firmware release for each version.

Thanks for the reply Willster419. Once I receive the phone, I'll figure out what I have. Nice to know about the script for the updates.

So, with regards to rooting, I see several different forums threads (here and elsewhere), including this thread of yours:

I assume that the link above is the latest, and most advised way to root the C771?

Thanks!

Hmm, I also see this link:

Seems like both links can root the C771? Is one safer than the other?

Thanks,
