New S3 Info! Also who's jumping ship?

While this may or may not sway your decision to jump ship to the S3 I find it imperative that I post this.

After speaking on the phone with a VM Rep. I found something pretty interesting. Though she did not know when exactly the S3 is coming out she did confirm it will come out this month. So I guess the Sprint article was accurate haha.

The second thing that she told me but could not confirm is that it seems that it will only come in one color, White. Well I don't know about you guys but I am not a fan of white but I guess a black case will cover it just fine because for what it's worth this is probably one of the most decent phones VM will get for awhile.

The last thing the lady told me was that other phones are coming but not any super high-powered Androids or the iPhone 5. From what she was saying these were like the PayLo phones (or something similar to those phones.)

So, that's all I know let's see who's still jumping ship?

Edit: Well we know the VM Rep was wrong about one thing because the iPhone 5 just came out lol

I'm sure it'll be in the 300+ range like all the flagships that come to VM.

They said it will come out on the 14th for $399. That's a lot. I ended up buying a mint s3 for $280 on ebay and I'll be using it on ting for like 38 bucks with roaming.

400$ is nothing, I was expecting in the 600 range. I have a service plan on my EVO V 4G through Best Buy. I get 300$back from that which will go towards the S3, and paired with the employee discount & new service plan it should only cost me 150$ extra. I'll take it.

I really hate the white plastic, bummer! Will likely keep what I have or hope for something else soon!

This color problem is easy to fix. I got the black EVO V and wanted white so I just searched eBay and found several used white backs. Bought one for $8.95 including shipping. Was in perfect condition. Guess someone replaced it with one of the other colors. Should be several available on eBay in all colors the S3 has.

Why would you buy the s3 if it was 600? You can buy an HTC One with that.

Right! With that amount you could buy TWO GNEX 4's....

If it was 600, it'd only be around 300 for me since I pretty much trade-in my EVO V 4G. If I had the money to pay for a regular contracted phone & contract; I probably would. but I cant beat 35$/mo right now on VM.

I only say that I thought it'd be around 600 is the price that they launched the iPhones @ on VM.

The S3 is $549 on T-Mobile right now. IF - and that's a big if, I could get an S3 for less than $400 on VM, I'd switch from my EVO V. Otherwise, nope. There is zero 4G in my entire County (or surrounding Counties) and I'd actually get better wireless coverage on T-Mobile in my area. So, I'd rather pay more for better coverage.

The problem in many areas with TMO is their indoor penetration. While they may have better outdoor coverage areas or roaming, they often will completely drop a signal inside any large building. With Sprint 3G my phone will maybe lose 1 bar indoors, while my sister's/brother in law's phones would go from full bars outside to no signal indoors (in places like restaurants and stores). This is in Jacksonville FL too, not some remote area. She switched over to VM and said the coverage is far better and never drops out (which mirrors my experience in Jax too).

The wild swings in signal quality is what kills TMO service for me.

    $600? LOL

They are $479 unlocked on Amazon (used to be $449)

Also, on the phone with a rep now, and she said that as of now they aren't sure if you can buy an S3 with your top up balance. She said as of right now, both iPhone options (4 and 4S) cannot be purchased with your top up balance, and it hasn't been confirmed yet if you can buy the S3 with your top up balance.

If I can't...that will delay my purchase of the S3 :(. It may force me to shop around waiting for a sale at a retailer...which could mean months and months of waiting.

Did you not read the posts above you that say it's 549$ on TMobile ? You have to realize an unlocked phone or a phone that requires a contracted plan is going to be cheaper than a non contract. Contracted carriers charge for the phone in monthly bills vs non contract carriers paying for the phone in full.

Yes I read that post. It's irrelevent. An unlocked phone is as expensive as it gets. For Tmobile to sell them for $549 is purely rediuclous...and is just their way of making more money (God Bless Capitalism). At least they will finance the phone for you $20/mo. IMHO, the real market price for an S3 is $449 (and dropping every week). That's what the unlocked ones cost right BEFORE the S4 came out. I can't figure out why they've gone up $30 since its release. I would expect them to go down. So apparently there's still some outside market forces at play. Demand must still be there.

Consider this...Ting is a non-contract carrier (Sprint MVNO) and you can get the S4 (not the S3) for just $596. How the heck can an S3 sell for anything close to that?

From what I see I'm judging anywhere between 300-400 but I wonder what other phones are coming though?

That's too funny. The agent I spoke with 6 hours prior to that announcement couldn't tell me anything.

Any confirmation if they will allow top up balances to purchase the S3?
