So I bought a new SD card (8gb) and want to get rid of the 2gb card.

Currently running cyanogen nightly 9/22. Do I just copy everything from the old card to the new and put it in the phone?

Or can I just take out the old and put in the new. I only had some pictures and music so im not worried about transfering over those.

What about apps2sd? do i need to partition or do i not have to worry about it anymore?

Transferred what I needed (music, wallpapers, pictures), installed card, nandroid backup, and started to move some apps to sd.

    works fine so far.

You still have to go into RA and partition your SD card if it has not been done before for Apps2sd. OP is using a new card so he has to partition the card or Apps2sd won't work.

OP: Just copy everything from your SD card to your computer first. Just make a temp file on your desktop so you can find it easily. Partitioning your SD card will erase everything on your SD. Your ROM probably has made some files on your SD, so copying the contents of your SD to your computer will save those. Then partition your SD (from your RA screen) and after you reboot your phone, copy everything from your computer back to your SD.

I formatted the card on the computer, put it in the phone, and apps2sd worked automatically. The only stuff I transferred over was mp3's, wallpapers, pictures.

phone put the needed files on it automatically

I read the wiki again at cyanogenmod's site. With this version of the ROM you don't have to partition the card (but cyanogen says you may need to in the future). So I played around with it.

Go to CyanogenMod Settings>Application Settings>And check the box "Allow application moving." Tap "Install location" and choose "External."

Go back to "Settings" (for the phone) and tap "Applications." Make sure the box at the top "Unknown sources" is checked.

Tap "Manage Applications." After your applications load, go down to each one you want to run from your SD card and tap the application. This takes you to a screen and you will see in the middle/right of the screen (below "Storage") where you tap "Move to SD card."

Tap that and wait a moment for the button to refresh. It will now read "Move to phone," showing you that the app was moved to your SD card and you can tap again to move the app back to your phone.

You will also notice the amount of KB or MB for the app under "Storage" has gone down. Some apps release more space than others but the app still needs some of the app to remain on your phone so it can be accessed (like in the cache) and find the app on your SD card. Simply repeat this for each app you want to move to your SD card.

I completely forgot about the "where to store after download" part. I transferred some to the SD but my widgets stay on the phone. Wish widgets would work when you move them to SD.

    Thanks

No. With Zen you have to partition your SD card first before you can use Apps2sd. If you gave any problems just come back here and ask.

so do i just partition the sd card, move everything i have on my old sd card to the new one, and it should be good to go?

or just partition the sd card, plug it in, and good to go?

(i don't have any music, pictures, videos on the old sd)

FIRST, make a nandroid of your phone. Always do that before doing anything to your phone, even this.

Second, copy or move everything from your old card to a temp file on your computer. I make a temp folder on my computer desktop and copy everything on the old card to that folder. Then remove the old card and pop in your new SD card. Partition the card and reboot your phone. Then just cut and paste your files from the temp folder on your desktop to the new card from there. That will probably work just fine. If not, then just post another question.

Do you know how to partition the card from RA?

RA is your recovery image, or Recovery Application.

First make a fresh nandroid and copy the new file to a temp folder on your computer desktop. Never, never do anything to your phone without a fresh nandroid in case everything goes tits up. And always copy the fresh nandroid file to a temp file on your desktop.

Next reboot into recovery and follow these directions:

The above instructions are from the site "geekforme." Here is the link: FAQ: Apps2sd Information There is a way explained on geekforme of how you can make sure Apps2sd is working properly. Just click the link.

Note that in the instructions it mentions the Fresh ROM but that doesn't make a real difference. I first partitioned my SD card using this method and have used Apps2sd with three other ROM's and it worked great.

I understand how to nandroid, but where does the file go? is it on the SD card?

I don't have a folder called nandroid or anything, so where is the file at?

When you make a nandroid a folder is created on your SD card and the file is placed there automatically. Then copy that folder to a temp file on your computer. Copy everything else to your computer too because when you partition your SD card it will wipe everything off of your SD card.

Sorry for asking dumb questions, im just trying to be careful and want to get this down step by step.

So first I make a nandroid backup, copy that file and all the other files from my SD card to computer,

Then I can switch out the SD cards, Partition the card and Reboot

And then I can paste all the files back onto my phone and everything will work out?

    does this look correct?

No such thing as a dumb question here, mate. The goal is to help each other and get you up and running without problems.

What you typed sounds great. Just follow the steps, partition your new SD card like it says on geekforme, and post any questions or problems here that you may have.
