    Hi
If we get the new sense, is this a new rom? If so, will HTC take note of custom roms and perhaps allow part of the SD to be seen as internal memory?

The rom (or OS if you like) is Android. HTC's release of android has a user interface called "Sense".

All it is is what you see. eg, homescreens, app drawer, menus etc. The bare bones of android is still working under neath. It is android itself that is responsible for the handling of apps. Not the user interface. This is just what you interact with.

Google's android did release a means of installing (or moving rather) apps onto SD card in Froyo (2.2). Its still not as good as what you can get if you root though.

Ah! I always thought that when you rooted, you were just replacing sense and android remained. So I guess a custom rom is a customised operating system not a customised GUI? So the new sense will not tackle this downfall :( I guess I am clutching at straws to avoid the inevatable root.

You can get custom with sense, without sense or even with the new sense.

Rooting really is,worth it but i understand your hesitation.
