First of all the highest setting i can see is 998 max. Is this all that Virtuous 2.7 allows for? Im on custom kernal

Next, Do i really need much processor power at all when screen is off? Why cant i just dial this way down so the battery is barely being used when screen is off? (how low can i go and still have no issues with email/messaging sync?)

Right now I have "screen off" profile set to 284/245. Is this why there is a bit of lag when unlocking? And is did i just answer my own question above? Meaning is this the reason why its not good to crank it way down during screen off?

Also using these profiles, something isnt adding up ... you would think i would have INSANE battery life. But i havent noticed anything substantial in the first day

screen off: 384/245, ondemand, 100% priority

    battery<50%: 998/245, ondemand, 50% priority

Seems like the battery should barely be used when screen is off, and when screen is on if the battery is less than 50% it would use less power than normal

If i got 10hrs on bone stock, no root. I would think the above changes would more than triple that. Am i missing something?

your <50 profile is not limiting anything...CPU still can run max.

and just because the screen off is way down doesnt mean the phone stops running, if it has to use the CPU for somthing its still going to use it and might take longer since it doesnt have the processing power to do it.

if you thought this was the gateway to triple the battery you are wrong, you might squeeze another couple hours out of the phone, but if you only had 10 hours before root you wont get 15 even by doing this.

Also you would want a different kernal like a hydra kernal that undervolts the phone.

    Here are my settings

    Set on boot, scaling conservative

    Profiles:
    Screen off - 460 max 245 min priority 100
    Temp >43.7C - 768 max 245 min priority 80
    Battery < 25% - 768 maz 245 min priority 65
    Battery <50% - 998 max 245 min priority 50
and these are all on demand.

When my phone is idle ill lose maybe %2 in 8 hours. With airplane mode on.

The custom kernal by adr is pretty much the same stock kernal minus perf lock and a few slight enhancements, its not overclocked.

Im assuming you meant < right?

My question is, isnt this the factory setting? 998 is the max i can go, and 245 is the minimum i can go. So why would i need a profile to set that?

you cant set a "battery >" profile, its only if the "battery <" profile....if anything you have the signs reversed on your post here.

Those are the settings I use. Still looking for that magic mix that probably doesn't exist. :)

998 is the max and 245 is the min of the virtuous kernel. i'm using the stock 2.2 os rooted and running the virtuous kernel.

having setcpu and using profiles allow you to scale processor speed between the max/min range based on different variables. for instance when the screen is off i underclock to 384/245 with conservative scaling. that's the only profile i use. in the past days with my moto droid i found that too many profiles can cause issues at times. that may not be an issue anymore, but i still think it's better to keep it simple.

other kernels allow you to overclock to whatever their max is via setcpu.

using different kernels is very easy. you can update to a different kernel by downloading the kernel zip to your sd card, rebooting into hboot and then selecting recovery, then selecting install from zip, then select the kernel zip file. doing this will not erase or reset any of your apps or phone data. HOWEVER some kernels do not play nice with different roms, main reason i'm sticking with 2.2 os stock/rooted which works with pretty much any and every kernel.

another word of caution, always always always run a nandroid backup before changing roms or kernels. you can never have too many nandroid backups. one thing i do to make this easier is copying my nandroid backups off the sd card to my local pc so i still have room on the card for more backups. :) especially since i'm running pretty low on space considering all the music, pictures, videos on the sd card and the fact that nandroid backups are not small by any measure.
