Sorry if this has been covered before, but it's not coming up on search...

What's the best way to secure the phone from someone picking up and using it? Using the 'unlock pattern' under security is kludgy because you first have to unlock the screen and then enter the pattern.

Am I missing something or is there app that handles this better?

    TIA

The only way built into Android 2.1 is the symbol. To make the symbol even more secure, turn off the setting that shows what you have drawn so far. Android 2.2 is coming hopefully soon and that will allow you to have a numeric keypad password or a standard keyboard based password.

There probably are 3rd party applications that let you secure the device in different ways but I have no experience with them.

I hope 2.2 allows us to keep the unlock pattern. I find I can swipe down and unlock a pattern lightning fast than if I had to punch in an old school password. Besides, I find I remember a pattern much better than a series of random numbers & letters. I just keep too much info on my phone to just have it stay unlocked.

It doesn't take it away, it just gives you more options.
