Got mine over the week-end. Very nice indeed! Sylon, I too have noticed that if I place the phone too "high" on the orb, I don't get the tones, but the phone is still charging. I've experimented in placing the phone, and within reason, it always charges. Very lenient on the phone placement.

Would love to get none but its to expensive when I can't guarantee that this feature will be available on the future nexuses. I might get one though as its really cool :p

Its seems like a sickness. I want one and don't want one all at the same time ;)

I just said eff it and ordered it. With 2-day and tax it came to $70(Barf!). But whatever, if I can use this on all my future devices it pays for itself.

I think that wireless charging is one of those technologies that is gong to start to be included in all future phones. I was talking to my dad today about ordering an Orb and he said that he thinks google will make wireless charging a standard feature on their nexus phones for the near future.

Mine died. Worked great on Friday. Came to the office today....dead. Google is giving me an RMA.

Can anyone with this orb tell me if you are able to charge the phone in landscape?

    Yes you can.

My phone doesn't skip off. Also, the electric current should create an electromagnetic field. Even with the nexus bumper make sure the rubber is clean. If it still slips I would RMA it. Mine is very sticky.
  13. As I said, some people don't have the issue. I've just cleaned the orb (it's 3 days old) and wiped the back down and will check it again tonight.

However, if sterilizing the environment every time I want to use it is the solution, it totally negates the convenience factor.

I'm tempted to start a new thread since this one isn't really related, to see if others are having this issue (as they are on XDA-Developers). Over there it's about half and half. What do you think? New thread worthy?

Edit: I just bought the nexus 4 for the wife. I'm about half jealous. Absolutely love the device. But LTE on my S3 is absolutely smoking. So I have mixed emotions. The S3 is a work phone--if I had to go back to personal, I'd get back on the family plan with T-Mobile and get a second Nexus 4 in a second. I'm a huge Android/Google/Nexus fan--but this product seems to be problematic out of the gate.

It relies on "sticky friction" to keep it in place. Even for those not having problems--how long will it be before we all are? Could be just a matter of time. These things are pretty new, after all. Maybe if I can jury rig it somehow I'll keep it--but really, I shouldn't have to for a 60 dollar charger.

No. Just RMA it. It shouldn't slide. Mine has lots if dust on it and I have a dbrand on the back. Sticks fine.
  15. Well, I wonder if if the orb sticks to things OTHER than the glass back of the N4 better.

Other folks reporting that the phone sticks great with the little protective plastic that comes with the N4. Obviously not a "solution" but it it is good data.

I hate to cover the back of the thing--it is a beautiful device.

Two of my friends have the orb, no case or skin, just glass. Sticks like tape. There's only a few problems like this with the orb. Just return it man. It's easy.

You just sound unhappy. If that's the case just return it and get your money back. They have flat wireless chargers out there.
  18. Yeah. It's a wireless charging device that won't charge the device it was specifically designed for because it slips off. And it's three days old.

I suppose I should overlook that.

I will be returning the charger.

Go read the XDA thread. Many people are returning it. I just think it's fair warning--these things are not ready for prime time.

I read it. That's only about 30 out of hundreds of thousands that bought it. Mine works fine. If it's starts slipping I'll RMA it. Simple as that.

  20. Hundreds of thousands don't participate in android forums. About half the participants in that thread are reporting the problem.

It may just be a high defect rate. Either way, it's poor.

Look, I'm glad you aren't having problems and I hope you don't. And I plan to return it and not get a replacement as I don't believe the solution is a "stickier" orb. Seems like a dubious design for a device that holds the device at an angle and relies solely on a "tacky" surface to hold it in place.

Honest assessment and criticism is necessary--it's what separates us from iPhiles, right?
  21. I cleaned it with a wet rag, and the back of the phone. It is very sticky after that. Maybe that's the answer. Maybe it was "dirty" right out of the box and won't require frequent cleaning. If it does, then it it renders it rather pointless.

I will report on how it goes.

If it's free to RMA and get a new one, why not even try? Why be so close-minded -- it's what separates us from the iPhiles, right?
