Help NFC won't turn on

Hi all,

I have a Nexus 5 and have previously used NFC with no problems. Now, when I try to turn NFC on, it greys out the NFC option for a few seconds then returns to the off toggle.

I have tried booting in safe mode to see if a third party app was interfering with the NFC but it still wouldn't turn on.

I am all out of ideas for what could be causing it. So any help would be appreciated.

I am running android 4.4.2, KOT49H build and rooted.
