oh, you gotta be kidding me!
i don't know how that's possible! its 1.6 that enables CDMA
Oh that' sucks, especially if they do a PC only update, they're leaving the Mac users out of the loop. Hmm, now I might just hold off until I know Sprint is delivering with 1.6 installed.
After reading the full article I'm seriously considering holding off on the purchase of the Hero.
This just sucks the big one.
"Sprint phones will also lack the new Android Market that is packaged with Android 1.6. The new quick search box, camera, gesture controls, and all other enhancements will have to wait till 2010."
I use Mac's as well. When this is released will I be able to just hope on a friend's PC, download it and install it?
I might have to install Windows on my Mac.
I can't sully my Mac with Windows. That's just wrong.
I used to have it when I was at my old job, so I might have to do it again.....
Yeah, not gonna happen here.
I wonder if Sprint will do the update like they do for Blackberry if I take it into a tech center.
I didn't even think about that. I don't see any reason they wouldn't.
The other problem is going to be newer apps, if the developers don't make them backward compatible to 1.5 we could be missing out on a lot of good stuff.
Holding off? *GGASSSPPPP**
ill just update to 1.6 when its available
Ok Mr. Sprint will Sprint do the update for the Hero like the do for Blackberry if I take into a tech center.
HTC Hero will ship with 1.5 but we will work on plans to support 1.6 when available from HTC for the Hero
from Sprint ADP
if its not over the air and needs to be done through a pc if you take it to a full service and repair store they should take care of it for you
Just found this about 1.6.
The HTC Hero recently received a software (ROM) update, improving the performance of the handset. However, the firmware version of Android remained at v1.5 (Cupcake). The next firmware update (v1.6 – codenamed Donut) will not be released until October. Sprint users will be happy to know that its HTC Hero handset will have v1.6 installed out of the box, according to Pocket-Lint.
Guess we'll have to wait until Friday to find out
(sounds *very* encouraging though!)
Got it from a post over on Crackberry.com
i never believe what these internet "sources" say ill believe when i see it
I'm over on pocket lint trying to find the post stating 1.6 will come to Sprint after release.
See if Chris were a true Sprint employee who wanted to make his customers happy he would call a buddy at tech support and get us the real scoop.
why dontcha work your mojo and find us some REAL info!!
Sprint?s HTC Hero to launch with Android 1.6? | HTC Hero | T-Mobile G2 Touch Blog
Was posted on the Sprint forums. I cant take credit for the find. Just passing it along.
Yeah they got their info from PocketLint also. I just called Sprint Tech Support the dude acted as if he's never heard of the Hero.
HA. Typcial. It never gets old does it?
Do you think sometimes they lie, just so you will leave them alone? Imagine all the calls they must be getting lately, I bet it would feel good once in awhile to just say "Hero? Nope, we dont carry that. Is there anything else I can assist you with today?"
That was you I talked to!
