I was looking at the 4G LTE coverage map and noticed that my area is not due for an upgrade in 2011...should I even bother keeping this phone? I love it so far but I feel like I am not getting the best I can from it since I will not even see 4G LTE in 2011, and not even sure it will be in 2012. I have a couple more days to decide...any suggestions if I do decide to return it? I gave my wife my rooted OG so she could upgrade from her Eris and she loves it. I would be forced to pick a different phone.

I would keep it, that way when they DO get some LTE coverage, youll keep your unlimited data plan.
Plus if you got a one year contract...thats another bonus.

I am thinking the same way but the way Verizon is with my area, I am not holding my breathe for 4G. Hell, I can't even get FiOS in my part of the state. The phone is a beast and the best I've ever had but I want to experience the 4G like everyone else.

I dont feel bad at all for you on the FiOS part. I live in the tenth largest city in the country and I cant get it. lol.

the thing is even with out 4G this phone is still a Good phone.
and like ohters have said if you go back to a 3g phone when Verizon puts in tiered data this summer by the time you do get 4G in your area you will no longer be able to get an unlimited plan.

the only reason i would exchange the Thunderbolt would be if the Droid charger comes out this week and you like it more.

but stick with a 4G unlimited plan

I won't be getting 4G even next year, and I'm keeping this phone. Just because it CAN do 4G when your area can't doesn't take that much from the phone...

There's nothing better available right now that would make me give up my TB, even if I didn't have 4G. I'd keep it

I fall in this category. I've loved the phone since day one, and who knows when I'll see 4G either, but for everything else, there's nothing else currently out that I'd want otherwise. And being able to go 4G someday is nice. And if I ever travel in the meantime to a place with it, bonus.

That said, 8 MP camera, video chat, talk and surf on 3G, KICKSTAND!, and more...I'd keep it.

I'd keep it if that's your only issue with it, even with 4g, I turn it off a fair amount just to save battery and I'm still happy with 3g.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will keep it. I made the decision based on the fact that there is no other phone (out right now) for Verizon that is better. I have wanted to Bionic for some time now but that's also 4G and also still not out. I love this phone and hopefully it won't start messing up since I started asking around. LOL

When 4G unlimited goes to tiered, you will probably lose the unlimited when your contract is finished. Grandfathering is only solid duing the contract. Not my opinion, but several folks at VZW (stores and regional rep).

If you are not into game emulators (Tegra 2 is a lot faster for those) or need extra internal space (Bionic will have about 13gb free, while HTC killed 4gb on the TB and has none), the TB is fine.

IMO, the display on the TB is a lot better than the Atrix and the Bionic has the same display.

My guess is late summer we will see a "TB 2" with a Snap dual and more internal space. Probably not called the TB 2, but will basically be the TB 2 in function.

TB display + Snap dual + 16gb internal = near perfect device :)

Part of Indianapolis around the airport has 4G, but not the side where I live. But I am keeping this mostly for the simultaneous talk & data on 3G, which until now was only available on T-Mo and AT&T.

Where have you heard this?!? As a VZW customer who has been grandfathered through a few changes (the unlimited text for one) this has never ever been the way it has worked. Now if you were to let your contract lapse and not renew, then yes you would have to sign a new contract. However if you renew your contact then everything stays the same, that is how grandfathering works.

Yea I hear you there!!! Not to mention I have 4 girls on my 2 accounts, ranging from 17 to 9... yea the amount of texts is comical...

(What is sad is that I beat them with the amount of texts I send every month... lol)...

i was in a 4g area this morning for a few hours, and while it was connected, it wouldnt send or receive data...i just got the website cannot be found message, and data returned when i got back to a 3g area. how do i stop this, and how do i turn off 4g?

Sounds like your 4g was off if it couldn't find a website. Did it show the 4g icon in your notification bar? If so, maybe it was something in your settings.

In the market, there is a free app that takes you right to the sub-sub-menu where you can turn off the 4g radio. I believe it's called LTE On/Off, but I could be wrong (phone is currently charging with power off to calibrate the battery).

Can also try going into Airplane mode for a min, then back. Just to "refresh".
