The AIM website says AIM Messenger is available for android 1.6 and my Motorola Devour has 1.6 and AIM Messenger is missing in the android market for the Motrola Devour.... Anyone know why and how I get AIM Messenger on my Motorola Devour?

There are so many IM clients that are multi-client (e.g., can AIM, MSN, Gtalk, etc.) available.

imo.im is supposed to be push, so would suggest you try this first. ("Supposed to be" because I haven't actually had to IM at all since I installed it, so don't know how well imo.im works)

eBuddy was my favorite until I found imo.im

Probably because most people like multi-client platforms?

Single-platform clients are a thing of the past, especially for mobile phones, I'm afraid.
