    Hi All,

I recently bought a desire and I love it, the only problem I have with it is that sometimes I can be somewhere, like a train station I change at, and even though I have full signal my phone won't make/receive calls or receive/send messages? This only seems to happen when my internet disappears, I had it at a Stevie Wonder concert at the weekend as well, full signal but no internet which somehow prevented me doing the above?

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

    TIA

    Scott

Yeah, I've noticed this too. I've also started to get the annoying 'Cannot send message - retrying' problem a bit more frequently. There doesn't seem to be a correlation between message and internet though. Sometimes it won't send mesages even with full signal, and sometimes it just randomly drops the data connection.

I've found that flicking it into aeroplane mode for 30secs then back seems to fix it as it has to reinitialise all the connections. Can't guarantee it'll work for you though.

I'm wondering if it was just a minor problem in the last software patch and FroYo will fix it. If not, I'm thinking Cyanogen or MoDaCo ROM. Failing that, might need a newer SIM from the network.

Which networks are you both on?

I am on O2 with a Samsung Galaxy and am waiting on my Vodafone Desire.

I have been getting this problem recently on my Galaxy so it might be a network problem rather than a phone problem.

    Curious.

I'm on O2, but never had that problem on my old Galaxy.

It's only just cropped up in the last week or so for me. Never had problems before.

Yeah - well my Desire has just had a moment again. Walked away from my desk to get a drink, came back and the phone was displaying the no service error, and a list of operators. I selected 'O2' from the list only to be told my SIM doesn't allow me to connect to that network.

One Flight mode cycle and it's back.

It's very slightly annoying - think I'll go and get a new SIM later on and try that.

I'm on Orange, in the middle of London and can't get a data connection? Tried the aeroplane mode and after the signal came back it showed full bars but no form of data connection. Tried to make a call and it wouldn't even connect.....

There is an option in the same place as the plane mode (hold power button until the power menu comes up) for 'Connect to the internet'. I've had the same problem as you and I've discovered that if you turn off 'Connect to the internet' first, THEN put it into flight mode for a minute, then come out of flight mode, then reenable the data connection, that tends to cure it.

Failing that, I'd recommend a power-cycle. That always seems to fix it, unless the network is down in your area.... don't think we can blame HTC for that!
