General No luck with HTC One X on 3G

    Seems I am having something of a rotten streak of luck with the HTC One X as I am on my third phone now. First one wouldn't do 3G and was replaced. The second one dropped out (after a month) on the simcard completely and wouldn't do anything at all. Got that replaced for a new One X and guess what happened yesterday ....

    No 3G signal what so ever. It switches over to 3G (albeit very slowly), and then just sits there. No data going in or out. So I am rather getting frustrated in the extreme. I have tried toggling airplane mode on/off and turned the phone on/off again without any sucsess.

    I am pretty sure it's the phone and not orange (for once :rolleyes:) since my gf has a SII on orange and she has no such problems with signal all together. After coming from the more than solid HTC Desire, this whole string of problems kinda is a let down...

    Anyone have any suggestions what to do/what to try?

    Try going into settings, press on mobile network then press network mode.
    on the tab that pops up change to gsm only wait for approx 10 seconds & press network mode again select gsm/wcdma auto & when the signal comes back you should have 3g again.
    if this doesn't work try the wcdma only .

    I just tried that. in both cases the symbol for the connection type does come up "G" for gprs when running in GSM only and 3G when running in either WCDMA or WCDMA/GSM auo. But other than that nothing really does happen.

    The symbol sits there without any connection/data further what so ever and fall the apps report no network connection. IE the in and out data arrows just remain grayed out rather than showing any flow of data passing.

    Heh, seems a soft reset brought 3G brought it back to life. Not sure why the soft reset worked and shutting down normally didn't. At least for the moment I have 3G on the move again which is the important thing.

    Sounds like your SIM card is acting up imho, the possibility of three faulty devices is very low. Double check with your network, ask them for APN setting for your HOX, if possible maybe just request a new SIM card and do a 'hard reset' Hope this helps :D

    Sad but true. First phone had 3G problems, swapped that out for a new HOX, that developed sim problems, which decided to dump the sim card completely. Decided there and then to do a swap of the phone (once again) and the sim card as well (hey, better safe then sorry).

    So yes, I just double checked; APN's are completely correct and as mentioned in my previous post, after the soft reset things seemed to be working just fine again. Have been running of 3G for pretty much most of the day without any problems.

    I did hop into the shop today and had a talk/explained the situation. They took down a note etc, so thankfully they are aware of the situation which gives me a much better leg to stand on if this one goes screwy and haywire. Although frankly, I rather not have it go that way.

    And while I agree that three faulty devices are highliy unlikely ... I guess I am proving that sod is still alive and well to wield his law...

    hi sorry to hijack this thread but thought it was better than starting a new one.
    i bought 2 of these pieces of garbage about 6 weeks ago having downgraded from an iphone but am now stuck with them for the next 2 years so may as well try and sort their issues out
    i am having the same issues as the OP and have spent ages on the phone with optus technical support to no avail.
    they seem to have no clue about these phones.

    i did the above and if i leave it on GSM it has the 3G signal but if i change it back to gsm/wcdma or wcdma only it disappears.

    are there any issues with leaving it on GSM only?

    Not had any issues with GSM/ mobile data on mine, so can't help with the gsm/ wcdma settings.
    One point to note on the thread above is the 'soft reset' though. When you switch your phone off, my understanding is that it goes into a sort of saved state - so that it can boot up faster when you switch it on. If you really want to phone to reboot (which is worth trying) then you need to switch fastboot off - under settings/ power, then press and hold the power button and choose restart. This will force all apps closed and restart the phone.
    The poster above mentioned that this sorted his isue.

    I seem to have the same problem... I've been using the GSM/WCDMA for 2 weeks now without any problems. All of the sudden there is no connection, when it shows a 3G connection logo in the screen. I saw more people have this problem, that is weird (all of the sudden?) did a weird update happend or something?

    I tried it all, restart, restart without the fast restart on, simcard cleanining, switching to GSM only etc etc etc... more suggestions what i can do? :(

    sorry i dont have any positive light to shine onto this thread... but i just think the ONE X is one buggy as hell phone. I love it for all of its positives, but If things dont change after i run a software update, im gonna be swapping it out for another phone.

    1. sometimes my text messages wont send (unable to send after multiple attempts message). A restart fixes this, but why does this even happen? Even when im in a area with perfect 4G LTE coverage.

    2. OTA software update issues. Having to set my date forward on my settigns just so software update can check for updates. I've had to do this so many times that my next due auto-check is in 600 hours.

    Just to name a couple off the top of my head. Im new to android so i dont know if its android itself or the phone. I dont expect any OS/phone to be bug free, but cmon... text messaging bug?? Isnt that the #1 feature used on phones in teh world?? And if you google it, there are plenty of people with these issues so i doubt its isolated to my phone itself.

    Heyy, just want to say I'm having the same problem. Got my HTC one x back In may and have mobile data problems ever since. I'm on orange by the way and when it goes off the symbol is there at the top of the screen but just won't connect at al to internet and its soooo frustrating! I think its a total of 5 times now its happened and I always ring orange customer service telling them and to be honest sometimes they are helpful and sometimes not. I actually had to do a master reset the 2nd time it went off then a few weeks later it happened, rang up and said they would replace it. So got the new phone, 3 days later boom, it goes off! Calls orange and tell me to do all these checks with setting etc which never work! Get told to do a master reset again and what you know it works. few weeks down the line it happens again which leads me to now. Rang up earlier today and they basically said they won't replace the handset because there's no way its the phone, but yet iv been on orange for a good few years and never had an issue till now. I also had the HTC desire previously to the one x and couldn't fault anything with it. I'm just fed up now especially since I'm paying to use the god damb internet that I can't use!!!!!! Grrr

    Thanks to this thread I have been able to fix what was a very frustrating problem.
    The thing that did the trick was to turn off the Fast Boot option.
    (Settings/Power/Fast boot and then follow with a Power Off and reboot).
    This is thanks to coos lick's post.
    My 3G connection is now working again :)
