Help No Sim Found on Moto E xt1528

I have a Motorola xt1528 Moto E second gen. I am getting a message No Sim Detected and of course its not recognizing my sim so I am unable to make calls or text. Any thoughts what I can do? I thought maybe reinstall stock firmware? I am new to all this and Im learning as I go. I really wanted to unlock bootloader and install a custom rom andd go that way but ths is a Verizon phone and Im learning Im pretty much stuck..is this true? Can I unlock bootloader? can I root? I guess my sim has to work before I can do anything.

First of all, have you tried another SIM,or tried the SIM in another phone, just to be sure it's not duff.

yes...sim works in other phones and I have tried another sim in this phone and it did not work. Any thoughts? I have tried to clean the contacts where the sim goes in also. coukd a reflash of the stock firmware work?
