Just recently I've had a new issue (2 times) with my Verizon S4. Both times happened when at/leaving work. At times I have no service at work....then when I go outside or move to another area inside where there is service I get no sound when making a call either to another phone or voicemail. It'll show that the call connected with timer counting up but I hear nothing....then after a little bit the call disconnects by itself. While it was acting up I tried calling my cell from a landline & it would ring....I answer it & hear nothing on my cell and on the landline I hear no voice coming from my cell. Then if I restart the device everything works fine. Today when it happened I tried turning on airplane mode then turning it off....didn't help. I had to do another restart then ur worked fine. Anyone else experience this lately?

If you updated to android 4.4.2 then there's not much that can be done. As that's one of the Android 4.4.2 bugs on the S4. And until Android decides to fix it the only alternative is to swap out your phone for a replacement with your carrier in hopes the issue doesn't follow you.

That's a very sweeping statement for all the 60 million Samsung Galaxy S4 handsets on the 250+ firmware releases worldwide for Android 4.4.2 that do not have this issue and for whom it is not a known bug.

There are known issues that the companies are admitting to and then there are the ones they aren't. There are headsets that are effected and headsets that aren't.

Go ahead and be a Samsung/Android fanatic, but for those people having the problems give them a break. And stop trolling people that actually invested the time trying to solve the issues unless you have a solution.

This is not an across the board Android 4.4.2 bug. Otherwise all Android phones worldwide, irrespective of manufacturer and model, would suffer from this.It is not even a Samsung TouchWiz version of Android 4.4.2 bug as it does not affect the overwhelming majority of S4 phones. This is limited to certain carrier branded firmware only.

Certainly not, "trolling". Merely stating the fact that this is not, as you stated, an Android 4.4.2 bug...

It is not down to Android, or Samsung for that matter, to fix carrier firmware.

I did. Try unchecking "incoming calls" in settings/mydevice/voice control.

I'm having this same problem all the sudden just starting yesterday... I had an S4 that I just got the beginning of September and had to send it back for a different issue... just got this one a little over a week ago, and now I have this problem.... I turned off the voice control altogether, so we'll see if that works.... I'll let you know.... meanwhile, I'm open to other suggestions....:)

Interesting. I am having this issue. I can make/receive calls fine, then i'd get a call, and we can't hear each other at all. I have to reboot the phone. I had this happen like two weeks ago, but blamed it on my brother's cheap MetroPCS phone lol

I dont know if this is related, but I've also recently noticed that when i wake up my phone to the lock screen, a microphone icon is in the notification area. It goes away when i unlock the phone. I've never seen this before ever.

    My phone is on AT&T

I've read in other forums that this could be linked with the "Go Google" search functions. I've for now turned those off on my phone and to reboot it - works again (for now) - will report back if it lasted ...

SOLUTION: Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 no audio sound during phone call.

For me it was a bad SIM Card Reader or Module IF. But it could be a bad SIM card so try a new SIM before doing this repair or at least take it out and in.

My Service Repair Statement said it replaced two things:
    Part Number Description
    GH59-13279A Unit-SIM SD SOCKET; SGH-I377, 10-0013-0278
    GH59-13111A MODULE-IF SUB FPCB(SGH-I337);SGH-I337,10

Called 800-726-7864 told them what the symptoms were and that the support line said it was the SIM Card Reader and they gave me a quote of $70.36 and seemed confident that the phone would be fixed. Sent to Samsung Repair Facility in Texas, total cost $70.36, and was without it for 9 days. It’s been working for 2 weeks now with no problems.

First I took it to an AT&T Service Center and all they really did was try a new SIM Card, next called Samsung Service 888-987-4357 and went thru a series of tests and they said it was a bad SIM card reader and gave me the repair center number.

    Symptoms:
No audio / sound during a phone call on either side (caller or receiver)
Call connects everything is working, just no sound.
Sound for all other functions and apps works (music, voice recording, video audio).
You can tell it is going to happen when you make a call and you don’t hear any ringing just a click sound then nothing. If you hear ringing then the call will work.
Rebooting usual works for a call or two. Messing with some settings may get it to work for a period of time. But for me none of any of the other suggested fixes worked except rebooting and turning airplane mode on and off but it only fixed it for awhile.

I have used the phone for 1.5 years and never had a single hardware problem, didn’t have it heavily loaded (RAM or Memory). It just started one day out of the blue and drove me crazy.

To everybody with the no sound when calling or receiving calls I tried everything posted on multiple sights nothing worked but I finally figured it out after days of trying to get to work. Here is what fixed mine I go through AT&T through straight talk I do unloaded magic jack worked great so I knew phone was OK so what I figured out was when I went to contacts when hitting green phone icon it would always want to load AT&T contacts then I would have to cancel before I could see my contacts that I loaded from Gmail so what I did was went to application manager and turned off everything that had AT&T in it restarted m6 phone no issue after that.

I'm going to try this as I've tried everything else suggested through various searches across many message boards (disabling Bluetooth, disabling "OK Google", perform factory reset, etc). None have worked. I believe ultimately the problem may be as described by rpsdguy in the post above yours. All of the symptoms he describes mirror mine.

I've had the issue for 5 or 6 months. Originated around the time I got upgrade to v4.4.2. Held out for v5.01 hoping that would resolve the issue. Nope.

I've performed three factory resets and have limited the apps I install, but this only fixes the issue for a couple days. My guess is that I have a faulty SIM card reader as described by rpsdguy. Since my phone is no longer under warranty, I'm now deciding whether to opt for the repair (be without my phone for ~10 days, spend the ~$70) or just buy a new phone.

Good luck to all that have this issue. It is very frustrating!
