Noob Friendly!!!Root, Custom Recovery and Rom FlashingSupport

    Lets get down to business!!


    First Download a File Manager

    The go to settings and application and check unknown sources

    Then Download GingerBreak
    GingerBreak-v1.20.apk - - online file sharing and storage - download

    The put the file on your sd card and then go into astro and install the app and run!!!

    Custom Recovery

    First download a terminal emulator from the market



    then get the files from the links and put on root of sd card
    Code (Text):
    1. # mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
    3. # cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
    5. # chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
    7. # mv /system/etc/ /system/etc/
    9. # mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
    11. # flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-thunderc-m-v1.2.0-GNM.img



    Wipe all user data then flash the zip!!!

    This is probably a really dumb question, but do I have to be plugged into a PC in order for this to work?

    Get into recovery... but I think I found a way. I will keep you posted.

    you could power your phone off. hold the home the volume down button and the power button would get you into recovery

    I think this would be a better, and newer, recovery to link to: All In One Recovery Thread by getitnowmarketing. It is a recovery for both the Android 2.2 and 2.2.1. I have 2.2 and have flashed that one as my recovery and works really well.
  7. thanks for being noob friendly. so much of this site seems to be stuck in quasi developer speak, abbreviations and assumptions and all. it has been helpful but not completely.i'll get there. just need custom recovery for dummies. lol i only found out what flashing was last night, prior to that i though it was dirty old men in Macintosh's exhibiting their unmentionables.* blank stare* ok back to the drawing board
