This is probably a really dumb question, but do I have to be plugged into a PC in order for this to work?

I think this would be a better, and newer, recovery to link to: All In One Recovery Thread by getitnowmarketing. It is a recovery for both the Android 2.2 and 2.2.1. I have 2.2 and have flashed that one as my recovery and works really well.

thanks for being noob friendly. so much of this site seems to be stuck in quasi developer speak, abbreviations and assumptions and all. it has been helpful but not completely.i'll get there. just need custom recovery for dummies. lol i only found out what flashing was last night, prior to that i though it was dirty old men in Macintosh's exhibiting their unmentionables.* blank stare* ok back to the drawing board
