I don't usually come on this site and gripe but man I am not feeling this new update! Its been more of a pain in the neck than anything. My phone seems to glitchy now. I could be using my camera then close it and my home screen will take up to 30 seconds to return no matter if I am pressing buttons or not. I can't turn the ringers completely off anymore! Some of my apps have changed due to the update, I am just annoyed. The light does NOT come on in video camera mode even after I updated my Mototorch app that states it allows the flash to be used as a light with the video camera! I don't mind change, I don't mind an update but this new update was like a system overhaul in my opinion.

Are you speaking of 2.2 FRG01B?

If so, it has been a little glitchy for a number of people including me.

It bothered me so much it drove me to root my Droid.

If you are on 01B then you may have noticed that a new OTA update is due with 22D here soon... that might sort out your issues.

I assume you have tried a factory reset? That fixes probably 50% or more of people's issues too.

    Good luck

Yea, I forced 22D and got the same thing. Just about every app was crashing. Did a factory reset, re-updated and it's great now.

so is my only recourse at this point to wipe my phone and start over to fix the glitches that 2.2 has introduced? I was really hoping to not have to do that.

No, have you got the newest fix to the 2.2 update? It is Frg22D.

That might sort you out on its own.

Have you tried a factory reset? That is what VZW will do to fix the problem if you bring it to them.

Yes, I have FRG22D. Had the same problem with the first update, this one made no difference. Have not tried factory reset yet but I just read in another thread that several people tried it and it DID NOT fix the problem. I just can't figure out how a bug this big slipped out.

Try Tesla LED instead of Mototorch.

The only thing I can suggest besides a wipe or rooting the phone would be to go through and uninstall your Apps one by one and see if the problems clear up.

I know with the first 2.2 OTA update some people found that uninstalling certain widgets or Apps and then reinstalling them worked.

I had issues with 2.2 FRG01B and was looking forward to 22D but then hear that VZW closed the one-click rooting exploit and that pushed me to root now rather than later (because either I am lazy or my time is valuable to me...your pick). So now my phone works very well and I have dodged the 22D update entirely.

Will the 22D update be a OTA update? I haven't gotten that yet is why I am asking. Now if I did a phone reset, that is going to wipe everything off the phone including contacts and apps and everything huh? Hmmmm not sure I want to go that route just yet! LOL!

I did a factory reset after I forced FRG01B because my phone was acting glitchy. Before you do this check the two boxes in Settings/privacy 'Back up my Data' & 'Automatic Restore'. If you have a home replacement that allows you to save your homescreens do a backup before you factory reset.
Once you reset the phone will reboot and you will have to reactivate your phone (less than a minute) and sign back in to all of your accounts. (this will get you your contacts) at this point (if you checked 'automatic restore') your phone will start downloading all your apps back to your phone.

All this took me less than an hour to get everything back to normal. I even got rid of some stuff I never used.

By the way I had about 140 apps.

Now I am running FRG22B with Zeam launcher and I've had no problems now that I've gotten rid of my task killer

Yes, it will start you out as if you just bought your phone.

You contacts and calendar are sync'd with your GMail account (along with your phone settings - WiFi access points, etc.) so they will be restored. Your apps should automatically start installing within a few minutes of you entering your Google account info.

The process is pretty much automatic, but I do recommend that you get SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh S. to restore your SMS.

You call logs can only be restored (AFAICT) if you either have an app like WaveSecure or else if you are rooted and use Titanium Backup or MyBackUPPro.

TBH, even if you are hesitant about doing this, you really should - all your apps were installed under a 2.1 or 2.0.x OS, and 2.2 changes the way a lot of things are done - so reinstalling your apps would be a good thing.

All good advice. If you connect to WiFi right after your WiFi settings get restored, your installation of apps will go that much faster too....

Ritesh S. also has "Call Logs Backup & Restore" and "APN Backup & Restore". I've tested the operation of all 3, and they seem to work as promised.

    Chris

ps thanks for all your help in these threads.

This update was really pissing me off too, but then one day the camera app froze so I had to pull the battery to restart the phone. Ever since then it's miraculously been running 10x smoother, even though I had restarted the phone plenty of other times since the update.

One thing I noticed: prior to the battery pull my RAM usage (Settings -> Applications -> Running Services) was ALWAYS hovering around 120MB or higher. After, it usually sits between 50-70MB.

All multi-tasking issues are gone -- browsers don't reload every time anymore and I'm not constantly signed out of gchat if it's in the background -- and the homescreen icons always load instantly now. Something was definitely messed up with the RAM usage but it hasn't happened again for at least a week.
