Note 3 question for owners.General

Had a note 2, went to s4, now on lgg2.

Kinda like the feel of note3 and considering a switch.

I love the faux leather back, but scratch my head - why have such a cool material there when most everyone puts on a case to cover it? I have no interest in a flip cover, and if I got the note would contemplate "naked"- as my note 2 got to feel too big/bulky/heavy. I think note 3 with no cover is better.

agree.. the NOTE3 is a very sexy phone.. feels good to the touch.
    love her naked!

but... the first phone i shattered was a GS3.
the bigger the glass the more it is easier to shatter.

so.. i went to amazon.. paid $20.
purchased 5 different cases. from thin.. to more protective.
from clear to .. to black
still feels great in my hands

i am just not brave enough to keep her naked.

you can protect the screen with a screen protector - see previous threads on the best ones. I like the iloome flex.

Personally I prefer it without a case but I did drop the first one I had and it really makes a mess of the silver frame which becomes rough/chipped and is not nice to hold to ear.

Although current one is in a labato folder type case.

A screen protector would do nothing in the unlikely event of a drop.

Well I dropped mine from a couple of feet or three as I got it out of my pocket thinking it would be smashed and it landed face down... No damage to the screen at all.
I'd say a screen protector does help.

I much prefer it naked as well, but very afraid of dropping my baby or at least something dropping on it. I have the OEM Case and find it ideal to protect the screen at least. When at home or playing a game I will take the case off but that opens things up to more scratches, etc..

It is truly amazing how much weight and bulk a small case adds. Would live a small rubber bumper for this guy

i think .. a screen protector does add a very small layer of protection against breakage.

vibration can break the screen. the screen protector can help against some vibration. it spreads the effect over the whole screen. so it does protect at the lower end of the hit. but this is the a small range.

does not protect against bigger vibrations and direct hits.

Totally agree. I have my Note nakes as a jay-bird. of course, this assumes that you don't drop your phone all the time and don't put it in your pocket with your keys, etc. I take care of mine and have never wrecked one.

I can't think how many times mine has fallen. The UAG case has done well.

What I worry about is dropping it in the bath.

ok everyone. Seriously. Let's focus. Some may think I'm tempting the fates but I have trained myself to always be conscious of what I'm doing. I don't take my phone near bodies of water, I ALWAYS make sure I have my hand around it when taking it out of or putting it into my pocket/bag. I do not put it in a pocket with anything else and I NEVER EVER let other people play with it, especially children (crazy crumb snatchers) :) Oh and I never use it one handed either other than talking on the phone. If you're working one-handed, then clearly your hand can't grasp it like you should. By using two hands, one hand holds tight while the other does its thing.

Reason I use the S View cover is to get it as naked a possible by just adding a little protection. The leather look back with a front cover, just right☺

Way too much effort regarding a cell phone...

A case doesn't add much at all. I put a Otterbox Commuter case on mine. No complaints here.

I have mine in the Love Mei case. The one you have to screw on.

Turns it into an absolute beast and triples the weight but it makes it damn near invincble. You don't need insurance with this thing. It's water resistant and everything.

I could break a car window with my phone and not care because of this

My thoughts as well. Without being rude, it's just a phone.

I suppose it might be for someone who would have to put a lot of effort into it. For me, it requires very little effort because it is second nature. I don't think about it. I just do it. The payoff is you don't have to detract from the look of the phone with a cover twice as big as the phone. Anything less really isn't any protection anyway.

my second nature is to let others use my stuff. I aint anal about my stuff.
my car.. my phone.. my bike... my whatever. if they are a friend..
adult or kid... because I treat others as I want them to treat me.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

The Otterbox Commuter case IMHO looks, feels great and it definitely doesn't feel like it added the kind of bulk you insist. To each their own... :)

How is the s cover work when

    On the phone?
    Two handed typing?
    Using video?

Do you typically fold it back up in itself? If so is there an annoying bump on the left side?

Drop a naked phone on its back and nothing breaks, right? Wrong. The shock of stopping is enough to shatter the insides of the LCD. That means a screen replacement. No damage to the glass, but the screen turns all one color, or is streaked or some other strange effect.

A TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) case is a shock absorber, among other things. And if you drop it on its face onto a flat surface, the case normally protrudes about 1/16" above the glass, giving you more protection. (It's also almost slip-proof - I can hold a TPU case with soapy hands without it slipping.)

Does it add bulk? Definitely. My N3 daily driver feels very strange when it's out of the case - "too thin". But have you looked at the cost of an N3 screen replacement? (I'm too old, my eyes are too bad and my hands aren't steady enough, to do it myself, even though when I was younger I've replaced hundreds of phone screens.)

BTW, one of the most stupid things I've ever seen is someone sitting down with an N3 in a rear jeans pocket. Even in a front pocket, unless the phone is free to slide in and out, it won't bend and it's large. But to sit on one? The glass is almost guaranteed to break.

I almost always keep mine in the holster. It's protected front and back (case on the back, holster on the front) and easy to get to. (And an i-Blason case is pretty cheap - I think they're down to about $15 now. They'll tell you that their screen protector will probably interfere with the case - but it doesn't interfere enough to make much difference. I have them both on - the case and the screen protector. [And a couple of little dust bubbles I missed.])

Works for me - albeit now also in a UAG case. No chance of sitting on it or any crease damage. (I've been using these Vega shoulder holsters for over 20 years.)

"Oops" My Note 3 flew 20 feet....    from shirt pocket, out across the asphalt, landed hard, S-view cover popped off, S-pen flew out, and the whole thing slid another 3+ feet. *No damage* only a couple small nicks on chrome edges
Happened the day I bought it; I forgot it was in my shirt pocket while playing basketball, S-View flip cover only. Lucky-dumbie-dumbsh*t!!!!
