I have read and watched many reviews on the Hero and I have yet to hear or read about a notification LED light. I know it sounds like something that isn't important, but to me it is. If anyone has any first hand knowledge or info on this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

The trackball lights up as well as a flashing blue? LED next to where you would put your ear, if holding the phone to talk. On the other side is the light sensor if I am not mistaken.

    Edit:
Its actually green and amber, depending.
Solid green Battery is fully charged.
(When the device is connected to the AC adapter/computer.)
    Solid amber Battery is charging.
Flashing amber Battery is low. (Battery power is below 14%.)
Flashing green You have a pending notification. (For example, new message or
    missed call.)

    And

Trackball allows you to select or highlight items on the screen. The trackball also flashes when you receive
an incoming call or a notification.

    Both taken from here http://insidesprintnow.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/hero_full.pdf

Does anyone know if the light can be turned off? As in, is there an option to not have it act as a notifier?

In the settings section you can chose what notifications to have the LED flash for or not flash for...

Can you help. I can't find where to do this? I want to turn off light just for email notifications, not sms etc. Is that possible?

    Help a dummy?

    Cheers,
    Steve

Setings, sound & display, scroll all the way down to notification flash and you can uncheck those that you dont want to flash and vice versa...

    Hope this helps.

It would do if I had that option. In sounds & display the options are as follows:-

    silent mode
    ringer volume
    media volume
    phone ringtone
    phone vibrate
    notification ringtone
    audible touchtones
    audible selection
    sd card notifications
    orientation
    animation
    brightness
    screen timeout.

None of which seem to help me. I have HTC Magic, on 1.5 firmware. Build number CRC1.

Grrr, tell me all the phones aren't different?

The PDF was for the CDMA version, which was around before the release of the phone.

Honestly, I havent looked for this option, so Im not sure where it wold be, or even if its unavailable.

Ah, sorry, that's the problem with the old search engine I guess, start off in the magic forum, and searches all forums, didn't notice it had swapped. Sorry about that.
    Cheers anyway.
